I have an extra stick of memory but its not the same and I’m wondering if I can run dual channel on my current kit and single channel on the other one?The rest of my build has an i7 9700f and a rtx 2060 in an msi tomahawk z370 motherboard.
I have a crucial ballistix rgb ddr4 3600 cl16 2x8gig kit and the other one is a hyperx fury stick that is 16 gb and I believe it was 3000 speedWhat is your current kit and what is the one you want to add? If they are not same speed then the lower speed will apply, that is if they are compatible at all.
Put it in and see if the machine will boot.I have a crucial ballistix rgb ddr4 3600 cl16 2x8gig kit and the other one is a hyperx fury stick that is 16 gb and I believe it was 3000 speed
If it works, it will scale down to 3000mhz 32gb in total. 32gb is better than 16gb and Intel is not too finnicky about speed unless there is a missive difference.I have a crucial ballistix rgb ddr4 3600 cl16 2x8gig kit and the other one is a hyperx fury stick that is 16 gb and I believe it was 3000 speed
Ok so if I buy another stick of ram that is the same as that one can I run quad channel with 2 kits?If it works, it will scale down to 3000mhz 32gb in total. 32gb is better than 16gb and Intel is not too finnicky about speed unless there is a missive difference.
If those are okay with you then give it a try.
If you buy another stick it might not be even made with the same parts as the other one even if it's the same part number.Ok so if I buy another stick of ram that is the same as that one can I run quad channel with 2 kits?
If it works then yes, anything you do outside a kit is trial and error.Ok so if I buy another stick of ram that is the same as that one can I run quad channel with 2 kits?
