I have an h110 pro-vd what cpu will be okay in it ? I had an i5 2400 thinks thats the wrong cpu because I get no post won't even boot up but fans come on heat sink works but no post this is what someone told me are they right My H110 motherboard can't recognise Kaby Lake processors because it needs a BIOS update first. You need a Skylake CPU to be able to access and update the BIOS is this true ? or just an compatible cpu?
thanks for the help

Solution
Well, any Intel 6th gen CPU (Skylake) will work fine in your H110 chipset MoBo. However, if you want to use any Intel 7th gen CPU (Kaby Lake), your MoBo needs to have latest BIOS.

Also, only LGA1151 socket 6th and 7th gen CPUs work in your MoBo. i5-2400 which you have is Intel 2nd gen CPU with LGA1155 socket and that flat out doesn't work in your H110 chipset MoBo (different CPU socket). For i5-2400, you'll need LGA1155 socket MoBo (e.g H61, P67, H67, Z68, B75, H77 or Z77 chipset).

For BIOS update, you need any Skylake family CPU in the MoBo to get to the BIOS and update it. E.g: Celeron G3900, Pentium G4400, i3-6100, i5-6400, i5-6600K, i7-6700K.
All compatible Skylake CPUs, pcpp...

Do note that while i5-6600K has unlocked multiplier for CPU OC, you can't OC the CPU with H110 chipset MoBo. Only Z170 and Z270 chipset MoBos offer K-series CPU OC.
I don't think my son will be OC it at alll so this i5-6600K should be alright right
? I know what it means but I don't think he does lol lol
