The best card to pair with it without bottlenecking would probably be an HD 7770 or GTX 650Ti. And get another 2GB of RAM if you can.

Shouldn't have any problems, although 1GB VRAM isn't enough for high-very high textures at 1080p. Get a 2GB version if you like high-quality textures.

Also, play in DX9 with FXAA only. Should get really good performance with all other settings at Very High.

you should get 6 gb more ram and get a readon hd 7850 or gtx 560 ti . if you add the 6 gb more ram there should not be a bottleneck. it can max out max payne 3

i´m running a e8500 on 4ghz with a hd7790.

for example on stock clock its impossible to play metro last light on very high. and in other games i´m getting huge frame drops.

i tested a little with 4ghz and i´m getting the same average framerates like the most benchmarks with new cpu´s (eg i7) and a hd7790

btw: i can play on stock clock max payne 3 on highest setting

Ok. You should have a fair bit of headroom.

That is a decent CPU cooler and your CPU only has a FSB of 800MT/s so
your system FSB is probably only 200MHz.

You can probably hit 3GHz with stock voltage if you have a pretty good chip.
With a voltage bump you might get to 3.2 or so

First I would note down your normal CPU VCore voltage
then switch to manual voltage and program in that voltage. That will
prevent the motherboard from unnecessarily overvolting

Then start turning up your FSB up. You should have a 12x multiplier
so if you increase the FSB 1 MHz your CPU will increase 12 MHz.

Run a stability tester like OCCT or Prime95 for at least 30 minutes
to check the stability and temperatures after every major increase in FSB.

How I like to do it is start small (say 10MHz FSB bump)
and stability test to make sure your board is ok with OCing

If that is okay then try a little higher.
FSB = 234 should make your CPU run at 2.8GHz
FSB = 250 should make your CPU run at 3GHz

Don't start increasing voltage unless its unstable and only if your temperatures are okay.

Voltage is the most dangerous part of overclocking
