I have an old monitor but a high-end GPU how will this affect my games?

I have and old monitor from 2005 but a GTX 97 that has 4GB. The monitor will obviously set me back with the visuals, but by how much?

I'm guessing your monitor has a resolution of 720p. The only difference will be the image quality. It won't be as sharp as it would be on a 1080p monitor. The colors also won't be as good as on modern monitors. Running on a lower resolution will increase your performance in games, so that's at least one postitive.
