Hey, so i just hooked up my new comp with a wifi card also
Thing is im getting really bizarre readins, every 2 seconds my rate updates, sometimes i will get a 1 Mbps, and the next two seconds it will skyrocket up to 144 Mbps, then it will diminish up to the 20-30 Mbps range, it does this often,
I turned off all wifi in the area but the problem still persists, i had my old computer exactly where my new one is iinstalled and it never had this problem..
So now applicaitons have troubles estimating when my downloads will finish with this fluacting internet rate 😀

So, what can I do to diagnose this?
And second of all what is a good decent Mbps to have?

Solution
Well that depends on what you're paying for. Companies usually offer packages with different speeds, say 10mbs, 25mbs, 50mbs or 100mbs. If you're paying for 10 and getting 144, well then grats. If you're paying for 100 and only getting 10, then something isn't right. Try going to speedtest.net and run a few different tests, local and the coasts and see what information you get back. If needed, call your ISP to ask if they show that you're all over the place from super low to super high.

As far as what is decent, partly would depend on how many people/devices you have going and what all you're doing. If it's only you and you're gaming on one screen and watching netflix on another, I would say you would want a minimum of 25mbs. If you're...

If you're in a house of 4 and everyone has a phone connected and 1-2 computers that are downloading and streaming, you might want more. If it's just you and you do work on it and don't really do any online gaming, then 10 may be just fine for you. I have 10 at the apartment right now and it's fine for streaming netflix, but I wouldn't trust it to play BF4 and the lot that I run while my GF watches netflix and surfs facebook/youtube at the same time.
