i have installed win 10 and only 2.97 out of 16gb of ram is usable

Have you checked if maximum usable limited
msconfig -> boot tab -> advanced options... -> un-check maximum memory option

Also, did you install a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 10?

Given if you search google for 2.97 gb, its all people asking why they can't use all their ram and being told you need 64bit versions, there is probably no question they are on 32 bit windows.

unfortunately this does not work for me.... I have 8GB of RAM, two sticks, and it says only 3.18 GB is usable.

You really should start your own thread. Be sure to mention whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. Also, you should check that your BIOS is up to date.
