I have read the temp guide in the forum, I need further clarification.

FIrst of all, I would really appreciate those who take their time out to help me in this matter. I am new to overclocking and would be grateful for those who can answer my few questions.

Here are my test results for Load, Idle , and Ambient

q6600 3.4ghz g0 @ 378 x 9 multi 3 cpu core v1.39 vcore

Ambient 25c (room temp)

dle T-case 33 celcius
idle system 30 celicus
idle core 1 43
2 43
3 37
4 37

Load t-case 34
load system 54
Load core 1 67
2 67
3 63
4 63

All these temperatures are gathered from using prime small tts full core testing.

Taken from guide for the go q6600

70--/--75--75--75--75-- Hot
--65--/--70--70--70--70-- Warm
--60--/--65--65--65--65-- Safe
--25--/--30--30--30--30-- Cool

Question: 1

There is a chart in the thread that mentions the specs for the processo in regards the max tcase/tjunction. My load tcase is 34c, but my tjunction is about 30+ degrees apart from my tcase. Is anyoen able to explain that a bit further?

question 2: Taken from the guide: "Factory Calibrations from Intel, and popular temperature utilities are frequently inaccurate." I would appreciate if someone is able to elaborate that in regards my results.

question 3: Taken from the guide: "Since Tcase indicates CPU Die temperature only, it is not used for Throttle or Shutdown activation, however, as Tcase Max will be exceeded before Tjunction Max is reached, Tcase Max is always the limiting thermal specification. "

So this means that the tcase temperature for 34c will be the determining factor when I overclock my system? Since my tjunction temperatures are way above of what this guide indicates then it is bringing a lot of questions in regards this temp guide.

q6600temp,

As Halister_o ne has pointed out, you haven't read carefully enough. You've simply mis-identified Tcase with System temperature.

Your actual temperatures:
Ambient = 25c

Idle:
Tcase = 30c
Tjunction = 40c (average)

Load:
Tcasae = 54c
Tjunction = 65c (average)

As you can see, Tcase Idle to Load Delta = 24c, while Tjunction Idle to Load = 25c, so they track one another by 1c.

From the Guide:

Section 8: Tools

Note 2: SpeedFan - ... SpeedFan detects and labels thermal sensors according to various motherboard, chipset and super I/O chip configurations, so the label for Tcase can be CPU, Temp 1, Temp 2, or Temp 3. Even if Tcase is labeled as CPU, it is still necessary to confirm the identity of Tcase prior to performing Calibrations.

■Repeatedly start and stop Prime95 Small FFT`s at 15 second intervals, while observing which SpeedFan temperature scales with an Idle to Load Delta similar to the Cores. This will identify the label corresponding to Tcase. Labels can later be renamed using the Configure button. See Section 11.

Have you read Section 11: Offsets, or SpeedFan's Help and HOW-TO, or SpeedFan's homepage Tabs for Support, Articles, Screenshots and FAQ's? - http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Also, Tcase Max is clearly listed for the Q6x00 G0 (Q6600 G0 & Q6700 G0) as 71c.

From the Guide:

Section 6: Scale

[Scale 2: Quad
Q9x50: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping E0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q9x50: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping C1, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q9400: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping R0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q9300: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping M1, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q8200: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping M1, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q8200: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping R0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q6x00: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping G0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--70--/--75--75--75--75-- Hot
--65--/--70--70--70--70-- Warm
--60--/--65--65--65--65-- Safe
--25--/--30--30--30--30-- Cool

I realize that there's a lot of information to take in, so if you don't understand something, then re-read it rather than jump to conclusions. My Guide wasn't just thrown together as I fell off the back of the turnip truck this morning. It has been carefully editied, proof read, tested and verified countless times, so I can assure you that the Guide works, the calibrations work, and the information is accurate and up to date.

Anything else need clarification?

I feel confused in regards your statement that is directed at "my questioning of your guide"; in fact; I have personally put all my faith in the guide, and I just basically needed some further clarification. I had originally thought something was not right, and I just wanted to bring this up to you or any members of this forum. As I am reading back into my post, I have no way questioned the originality of your guide as some others have.

^ you sound like you are offended but i dont know why.its clearly you didnt read the guide carefully(specially with the name+value).and Compu just explain it to you. be more patient and get use to accept criticism otherwise you wont go very far in the forum/life/anywhere with that kind of attitude.

Thanks iluvgillgill, but I think in this instance, q6600temp has made a valid point:

This is what I misunderstood:

Since I'm quite serious concerning the work I've invested in the Guide, whenever it appears to me that it's credibility is being questioned, I tend to become defensive, which I hope is understandable. Because the Guide is the only work of it's kind on the Internet, I know that users depend on the information it contains, so I'm continually aware of the responsiblities the Guide reqires of me.

Regardless, let's get back to the problem at hand. Are you now able to perform the calibratiuons OK?

That about be in about... never! Core i7 promises to have better thermal monitoring for enthusiasts but there's no plans for any further assistance, specs etc on core2. Unless they change their mind that is.

yeah i guess so.so they only care about selling the money making stuff. but since with the current temperature monitoring ultility we can push our hardware to the limit anyway so no worries:)

Ok, Here are my calibration results at idle, I would like for you to add some input if possible.

at 1.6ghz idle, low vcore

tcase idle 21c
tcase load 37c

T junction idle 31c
t junction load 47c

core 0 idle 33
core 1 idle 30
core 2 idle 28
core 3 idle 33

core 0 max 50
core 1 max 45
core 2 max 45
core 3 max 50

I already set an offset for all cores to -5. Which makes the tjunction 5 above the tcase for the temperatures. I forgot to set the cpu offset and I need help with that.

Here are the other equations

If tcase idle = 3 then what should I set my offset for tcase temp for?

Any input? I forgot to mention my ambience which was 25c which was measured by the room thermostat.

What values can i use for my offset for the tcase? I set up my cores to be 5 ahead of the tcase but I had no idea wha to do with the values from the wattage at idle and cooler which equaled to 3.

You already have the values for Z and Ambient, so just add to find Tcase Idle, then configure whatever offset is required to match Tcase Idle.

Run Prime95 Samll FFT's for 10 minutes to find Tjunction Load, then configure whatever offsets are required so that each Core is Tcase Load + 5c.

Just follow the Guide:

Section 9: Calibrations

Part 1: Calibration - Tcase Idle

(D) Tcase Idle should be Ambient + Z

(X + Y) / 2 = Z

Z + Ambient = Tcase Idle.

(E) Configure Offset correction as shown in Section 11.

Part 2: Calibration - Tjunction Load

(B) Tjunction Load should be Tcase Load + 5c.

(C) Configure Offset corrections as shown in Section 11.

Let me know if you have any further questions,
