Hi, yesterday i thought i would fixed some cables in my PC, one cable was the RGB header to my phantkes led strips and unfortunatly i had my PC on when i was trying to putting it back in, i went to my Aura software in my pc to see if i could change the lighting which i could but only the red and green colours so i then pulled the header out and then turned it and put it back in and after that i smelled something burned in my Pc andi could see smoke from that spot where i put the header back in. I then decided to try the next RGB controller on my motherboard ( asus maximus hero ix) and when i later checked on aura software if i could change the colours i could only change the red and blue colours, now not the green ones. I have a pictures on where my motherboard is burned.

That's not a very high resolution picture and I couldn't really make out the markings on the SMD next to the burnt one. The Aura controller chip/IC seems intact but that burnt one is certainly gone.

You can talk to Asus people and see what's their take on this.

What I get from your post is that board is working? But it's certainly damaged. It's hard to just tell from a picture when one has no access to the board but it might have damaged other components and might be on he verge of dying.

Or wait for others with more experience here to elaborate on the situation.
Yes the Hero. A friend of mine had to RMA his HERO twice and decided not to utilize the LED controller and VRMs on the board altogether because they burnt out.

Yours died most probably because you you plugged the cable back in while system was on. Not the best choice. I think you need a new motherboard.
