Hi all,

I recently cloned my OS from my HDD to new SSD, when I launch my PC I get a black screen once I type in my password and a command prompt is on my screen, if I type in explorer my computer home screen loads as normal and all is good.

How can I solve this?
I’m currently running a chkdsk in command prompt and I’ve looked in the registry at the Shell file which includes explorer.exe as required.

I do recall deleting an autorun file from the registry a few days ago would that have caused it? Thanks

Hi, first see if you have a Restore Point set and if so, use it to see if that fixes the problem. Press Win+R and type in RSTRUI.exe.

It is possible the AuroRun entry that you removed did this.

Turns out one of my auto runs had the wrong directory in the Shell file, it had “CMD.exe” instead of “explorer.exe” in the image path. Problem solved I thank you for your efforts in bringing me to a solution :)
