I had Win98 on my machine for 2 weeks (only to play a game). When I was done with the game, I delparted/formatted the hard disk & reinstalled NT4 Work Station on it. Been using it for 2 days & just noticed that I was still using my USB mouse (Logitech optical 2 button+wheel)! And this is with NO Service Packs what so ever!!!

I had totally forgotten that my mouse was plugged into the USB port until I opened my desk drawer to fish for a pen & low and behold my USB-to-PS/2 adapter was still in there. I even triple checked the mouse connector to the mobo, & yep it's in USB 1. I changed the BIOS setting "PnP OS" back n forth from yes to no, & my mouse still works! I have emailed Logitech to find out what's going on & to see if more of their mice are supported. No mouse software was installed (I obviously used it during setup).

How is this so? I was always led to believe NT did not support USB.

That's weird, it probably has something to do with the bios code translating for the OS. Just like you can enable legacy support for USB keyboards in most current BIOS. If you find out any more info, let us know.

Check out my rig:

Yes, it would be very interesting to know.
Also related, I don’t remember the sites, but there were some USB devices advertised, claiming that they suppose to work under NT.

And unfortunately, I don’t understand the Microsoft English:
firstly they say:
1 - Minimum System Requirements to Use USB IntelliMouse:
To use the IntelliMouse Explorer and IntelliMouse with IntelliEye, you need:
Microsoft Windows-based computer:
· Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later operating system*
<A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q248/8/13.ASP" target="_new">http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q248/8/13.ASP</A>
then they continue:
2 - IntelliPoint Mouse Software Not Supported Under Windows NT:
RESOLUTION
Download the IntelliPoint software version 3.1a for any of the following operating systems: Microsoft …Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3, 4, or 5; …
<A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q122/5/26.asp" target="_new">http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q122/5/26.asp</A>
Why do they mention the NT with different SP in relation with USB, why they mess around WinNT with USB? Why not to say just: NOT supported, whithout any references to SP, without any *, and **, and RESOLUTION?
