I have vista and do not want windows 8 or 10 can i download windows 7 for free. I understand I need to update to keep my computer support through chrome. I have 10 on a brand new computer and it has not worked since nov.. I am fighting with bbuy now.

No; Windows 7 still costs money. You can if you've got a key already, though.

Linux is free.

Well worth investing the money in Windows 7 at least. From experience windows vista wasn't very good. Also if you buy Windows 7 and register for free Windows 10 upgrade you can upgrade to a later date for free if you choose so.
