i have xp but computer programs are telling me i dont

any time i start my google chrome browser or try to do some up dates an error message comes up saying i need windows xp or greater that i should upgrade my operating system. I have windows xp as an operating system. not to sure what to do the computer wont let me update my windows xp drivers please help

which version of chrome? what service pack level on the xp?

You could use Internet Explorer to help with this.
I mainly use Firefox, but I keep IE installed for the times where pages just won't load for one particular reason or another. The legacy support that IE provides is particularly handy with this.

Is this a legal copy of windows?
