When I installed the card, the card fans start spinning and stop. I have one 6 pin power connector connected to it. The PC wont power up and will beep three times repeatedly. Does this mean my PSU doesnt have enough watttage? Or does this mean I need to connect another 6pin power connector??

Solution
that's what you see 600 series or below are safe bets the first 700 series cards like some 750ti 's had a switch that allowed uefi or legacy use but now todays 750 ti do not come with that anymore and your stuck ...

thing is you see a lot of guys with custom motherboards finding this all out

example

seems to be a big push to get folks off there old good working systems by making these new parts like a GPU just not work on them anymore [even OS's like that malware win-10 as well ]

'MSI added a dual-BIOS feature to their card, which lets you pick either a UEFI-enabled BIOS or a legacy BIOS''...

I have the stock PSU that comes with the DX4870-UB21P..I thought it was at least 400w. Well, I unplugged the power from the disk drive and the sata cable from it as well to hook up my new SSD. Other than the SSD, it has all stock parts. i5 2320 processor.

Actually it's a 300W PSU I believe. But wattage doesn't matter, quality does however and this one is pretty bad.

Best thing to do is buy a quality PSU, not the one with the most wattage.
Name your budget, I'll find something.

Oh no! $50 preferably, up to 80 though if needed.

yup, that's how it is today YOU now got to support them cause they no longer support you .

like I said and say prebuilt companies sell whole computers and don't give a rats butt about you upgrading them and only guarantee them to fully work with what was put on them by them as is out of the box sold to you from there factory , not a drop more

anything you do over that is all your own risk

you see the acer forum support link I added ??? not even it seems a older 700 series will work on his model ???

I shall let you know when I get off of work in about 3 hours how it goes. I've spent probably 10 hours in the past couple nights fighting with my PC to install a new ssd and move os to it for the first time.. but now I know how!

Lol, preferable no more than 2 or 3..
Well here's a question for you, so that I can be mentally prepared...

If I take out my SSD and HD, can I pop them into the other tower with minimal issues? Plug and play?

cant say with windows more then likely no , may run a key check and see its not the board it was licensed to and fail to load desktop ??

you could try a live dvd of Linux ??

You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact.

https://www.linuxmint.com/documentation/user-guide/Cinnamon/english_18.0.pdf

I keep one handy for testing or what not . boots to desktop just off the dvd no installing on a hard drive at all

Okay, so after opening my parts pc, it has an old motherboard which I wont be able to use. It does however have a 400w hp400d. That being said, if I can find out if my card is supported or not on my DX4870, I may be able to power this bad boy with this psu. How can I find that out?

cant say your dealing with a prebuilt and ???? . do you got a buddy with a modern custom build ??? then I guess all you can do is what you can and hope for the best

I was wondering if there was a bios update for windows 8 use that should be a uefi conversion thing ? but nothing to put the risk on doing that like from here

https://community.acer.com/t5/Gateway-eMachines-and-Packard/Gateway-DX4870-Which-BIOS-for-dual-boot-Win8-amp-Win7/m-p/394212

https://community.acer.com/t5/Gateway-eMachines-and-Packard/should-I-update-DX4870-BIOS-upgrade/m-p/398871

I have see some HP users at he hp forums able to do that but ???? that risk could be total bricking on the motherboard ??

this guy said he got his 1050 to work

Re: Will the 1050 ti work with my dx4860-ub33p, that has a legacy bios?

The card ended up working, but it didn't boot into Windows at first. I reinstalled windows using the gateway recovery partition (alt+f10) and now it works with my computer. It posted the whole time though, so I don't know if this is helpful if your computer won't post.

https://community.acer.com/t5/Gateway-eMachines-and-Packard/Will-the-1050-ti-work-with-my-dx4860-ub33p-that-has-a-legacy/td-p/475029/page/2

then your back to this

https://community.acer.com/t5/Gateway-eMachines-and-Packard/Nothing-works-after-putting-in-a-graphics-card/m-p/453872

thing is of all I looked at that one guy was the only one then you don't know if hes just pulling your leg to look smart ??? then see he may not know if he really got legacy bios or the newer win-8 supported bios ???

ya, dell gives support on there xps line but you can see these cards 900 series and up DID not work until dell released a new bios that did support them [A10 gave support for the 900 series ]

example

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19601491

matter of fact weather a dell or custom board you can see with the release of the NVidia 900 series that was a issue look up z68 and gtx 970 and see how many of then did not work unless they got a updated bios for there z68 motherboards ... some guys did not get a thing and were just left S.O.L

see its up the the boards vendor to support you and your board prebuilts are for the most part sold and supported as is as you bought it forever

try it and see, heck may be the ticket on that psu deal ??? cant hurt
