Hi i just upgraded from a i7 3770k to a i9 10850k. The cooler i bought with it was a Be quiet pure rock 2.

When i booted it up everything went fine. However when i started playing games my temp increased very much. At one point it reached 100c on one out of 20 cores. (Just touched). So i opened the computer up and i tightened the cooler. After this the idle temp was lower, same for the temp while gaming. Around 70-75c (85 max in cod warzone). What im worried about is the idle temp, i see most people getting around 30 while im getting idle 45?? Isnt that high, considering most others have around 30?

Also, i code alot of AI so i compile models which is incredibly heavy for the CPU. When i did this, it reached 93c :( Isnt this too high? What could it be? Maybe the thermal paste is burnt? because of the touched 95-100c? I've only had the PC for 24 hours.

The Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 in question is a single stack air cooler with a single fan...; is that correct?
Be Quiet

I'd not really expect it to rival a Noctua NH-D15's cooling ability given the Be Quiet is less than half it's size...

Your current temps seem reasonable, but, I'd suspect your clock speeds are more towards minimum/base clock speeds vice some of the typical all-core turbos of 4.9-5.0 GHz these CPUs are capable of; you could confirm this by observing HWmonitor when under a load such as CPU-Z/bench/stress CPU, which generally will stress a CPU as much or more than most any games....

  1. Yes, those temps are kinda high.
  2. Did you do a fresh OS install with this hardware upgrade?
I did not reinstall windows, i will try that when i get home! The speed currently is at 4.8Ghz when it should be 3.6 if i remember correctly. I did not chose to overclock it in bios but it might have something to do with the installed windows version for my last motherboard

Silicon lottery?I am not really intel guy but 93c sounds high to me maybe change the thermal paste and see what happens. Also a clean install of windows and lastest bios update are recommended.

First of all you are using a decent cpu and because of this you should also use a decent aio, atleast 240mm aio .
Here are the things you shold do:-
1. I think you have put a lots of thermal paste on cpu. Remove the old thermal paste and put it in a less amount(if it still dont work then go to market a buy a good quality thermal paste and apply it)

2.clean install of windows

3. Update bios but most importantly shift to a aio (Atleast 240mm) , aio will give you lower temps then that be quite air cooler

This is simple.
You didn't buy a good enough cooler for that processor reapplying thermal past will not help.

Yeah i agree, he is using a i9 and he should also use a aio, but maybe that's because he used a lot of thermal paste, first let him replace the thermal paste if it doesnt work then he should shift to a aio.
