I just purchased a new hard drive for my son's HP Pavillon G7 - 2269wm. He lost the "recovery Disc" and I have no idea what I

My son recently came home from the hospital and tried to use his laptop. There was an error message which is telling me the hard drive is shot. I ordered him a new hard drive. The problem is, he doesn't have the Recovery Disc for the HP Pavillon G7 - 2269wm (does it even run on Windows 7?) and I have no idea how to go about getting it. What exactly does a recovery disc do by the way (it's mom here typing this and ultimately fixing it b/c he doesn't have $$ to spare and I get to learn something new). Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you know the name of a great anti-virus software that can also get downloaded that would be wonderful!

If you or he knows anyone with the exact same laptop they can make a recovery disk set for you; otherwise you would contact HP and purchase a set.
A more expensive option would be to buy windows 7 from a retailer.
And lastly, if you join the window insider program, you get to run current win10 (with beta updates) for free just for letting them test updates on your pc.

That is an HP. Your only real option is to get what you need from HP. Trust me. Any other choice is unlikely to get that machine back up and running.
