''Well, for that price you could get a new 1070, which beats the 980 and maybe the 980Ti'' so far only in the hype sheets with cherry picked samples
you don't think they would promote there hot new card as being slower and when has a new card series been worse then the last ?? also look at them reviews they use the lowest clocked 900 cards [reference] to compare with
then look at them clocks 1607/1733 it better do something 980ti ref is only 1000 ??

wow 5 to 12 fps difference [1080] across games tested when its not a lowly reference card and lets face it a 980ti beats a 980 well see you got to get away from all the hype oh and don't forget the 1080 [or all 1000 series ] has less supported features in some areas
I think theres going to be a lot of WTF when these card hit real end users hands in at home conditions
I don't think you hurting one bit with that 980 I'd run it and not look back at all it is what it is and no slouch
still 1607 clocked card compared to a 1000 ??? them gains aint so great ?? anyway only time will tell and hope these first release guys don't get the gtx 970 deal when the 900 cards first released [ you know no one reported coil whine or the 3.5 memory thing until well after the fact and sales ] all them guy felt good over that
you got to remember these so called hardware reviews like you see here at toms and all are for promotional hype not facts on the hardware tested that's now a no-no cant point out any bad or it may cost them free bees or kickbacks or future samples to be ''tested''
Coick speed means NOTHING. Why don't we still use 4.5 GHz p4 processors? Point is you're wanting to compair stock clocked cards against oced versions.... there will be 1080s oced as well. Only time will tell actual gains/oc prowess of the new cards
