Question I keep experiencing weird lags during online gaming.

Hello there, i've been having some network issues lately (I believe it's network), so basically whenever I play an online videogame, every 1 or 2 minutes the game kinda like "freezes" for a bunch of seconds, which could range from 5 to 10 sec. This issue presents itself only while playing, it has never happened other from there. this has been going on for about 3 or 4 days, I've tried different things, such as updating windows and the drivers, I also try restarting multiple times my router and the pc itself, seems to work for 1 or 2 hours, then it keeps happening again. Sometimes restarting everything doesn't even work. If anyone has any suggestions about what could it be and what could be done to fix this problem, i'd really appreciate your help. Thanks.

It might not be a network issue can be issues with the game

The fairly standard test is to open a cmd window in the back ground and then leave a constant ping to 8.8.8.8 run. When you see issues in the game you quickly switch over and see if you get corresponding issues in the ping. Mostly you are looking for packet loss or maybe a bunch of very big ping spikes over 100ms.

What might have changed since 3/4 days ago when all was well?
Perhaps a bad windows update?
You could try using system restore to reset your pc back to a good previous date.

Could you have some component that thinks it needs to call home to check for updates frequently?
How about a email send/receive that kicks off every two minutes?

Look at task manager when the event happens and see if there is a strange component active.

i've been looking recently at task manager, the only weird thing i can notice is that the Ram looks kinda freaky, I mean even when not in game it kinda just sits at around 40 to 50 % of it's use, other than that, the only time i've updated anything on my pc has been yesterday, when i posted the thread. nothig else has changed since 3/4 days, only weird thing is that there's been some storms and high winds last week. other than that I don't really know much else.
About the component that you were saying, is there any way to check that?

I would very much try what you said, only thing is that I would need some better explanaton about the 8.8.8.8 run, didn't really get that part, about the game i've even tried checking integrity of files, and even tried to uninstall and install back again the game, which fixed the issue for a short time, then back to lags.

I guess what is the problem. Do you not know how to open a cmd window or is it that you have not used a ping command.
It is pretty simple
ping 8.8.8.8 -t

The problem is depending on what you find it is just going to get more complex in the testing.

sorry, what do you mean by that? could you be more exhaustive ?
If you open up system restore, windows should have issued checkpoints before any updates.
There is an option to go beck to even older checkpoints than the most current one and restore the system to then.
You can create checkoints yorself if you are about to do something risky or unknown.

I've tried just now to run the ping command, this is what it has been showing almost all oft he time "Risposta da 8.8.8.8: byte=32 durata=24ms TTL=115", it sits like this most of the time, even when i get that little lag spike in game.
edit: actually the ms changes for 24 to 30-31ms when the lag happens, but that's kinda weird, i feel like it's more of a packet loss then

The problem would be very obvious in the ping. Small amounts like 10-20ms is likely just testing errors.

You need huge spikes most times many hundreds of ms extra. One here and there also does not make any difference. You generally see 2 or 3 in a row most times or even packet loss.

What this means is your problem is not likely a true network issue. You should keep testing to be sure.

There are so many options in a video game that can cause issues it is hard to say. Many times it is video settings but it can be stuff like bugs in the game or even issue with the video drivers. These are very hard to find because games are so different.

Not sure what to recommend. Maybe resource manager will show some issue with cpu or memory but if it is a video setting issue the only way figure that out is to randomly change stuff and see if it gets better or worse.

Ok i get it, i'll keep testing until things will be fixed again, I thank you for your time and support, wish you the best.
