Hi

The past few days i have been trying to figure this weird freeze out...

dont know how to fix this weird freeze... it can't restart, i can't close things but the taps that are open i can switch between but they don't work. if music are playing it will run in a 0,5sec loop.

It started when I upgraded to this
Motherboard : Aorus B550 Pro V2
CPU : Ryzen 5800X
RAM : Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3600mhz c18 16gb
CPU cooler : Masterliquid

RAM is set to run at 3600 in BIOS and the motherboard support it too.
only thing I have not upgraded is my Graphic Card MSI gaming X GTX 1080 and PSU 1000W..

I have updated BIOS and updated firmware on my SSD... did nothing.
stress tested the CPU in prime95. nothing wrong there.... beside the temp at 91C at full load 120W would like it to be lower but it works. low work is at around 50C... way to hot. and IDL around 45-50C (guess that is AMD in a nutshell)

Graphic Card stress tested in 3DMax runs good.

Computer set to Ultimate in power settings.

so it does not look like it is because of the heat or bad hardware. i am starting to think it is short on power somehow. or maybe the RAM?????

I can force it to happen by opening 2 small games each on to accounts. one in steam and one in another launcher. and then it will maybe happen after 3-5min.
but generally it will just happen if I have many things open even tho it is small things.

here you can see how it looks.

hope someone can help with this problem.

I have to ask- was Windows reinstalled after new motherboard was installed?
Have you looked at error logs to see failure?
well i did try to not have to remove windows after the new motherboard but it look liked there was a few missing files. so i made a clean reinstallation. have been thinking about trying to install on a new SSD that i have not used yet.
and just looked in the logs. and the most error messages that comes is "etocfile" and "etinit" it's one of the apps coming with my motherboard "easytune" these two shows up for every freeze.
and then there is this one too "Corsair.Service.DisplayAdapter" error name "CLR20r3"... but this one do not show up today and it has frozen 3 times today.

Also check your ram with memtest86. How is your RAM speed setup ? XMP ? Because if it is I would recommend setting frequency, timing and voltages manually as XMP doesn't work very well for Ryzen based systems.

Thank you i am running the test right now... and it has been going on for some hours. and i had XMP running so that might be the problem. but i will come with an update sometime tomorrow.

Turn off easy tune for a bit, I've had trouble with Corsair SDK's until it got fixed and I never use anyone's bios tuning software from windows.
Thank you. i don't know if that was the cause of the problem. but it might have saved me from some headache down the path. Right now it is testing the RAM so i can't say anything yet.

i ran the test for about 4-5 hours on one RAM stick it passed 3 runs. the 2. one i tested over night. put i turned of my screen before i went to bed and it would not start up again. so i ran the program again with both RAM sticks for 12 hours. nothing wrong there. and i turned off XMP. but i just had a freeze. but this time the video on youtube kept playing like normal. until i tried closing programs.

The RAM is running on default settings... i was a bit confused in EasyTune the timings where set to 22 but in BIOs it was set to 18. but i have unstalled EasyTune before this new freeze.

do you have other ideas?

Hello,
I can't really help you, but I can bring some answers, maybe. I have the same problem as you, I think. A weird windows crash, the apps seems to still working until I try to use them, my game will still run for fews seconds before freeze. Can't use the hidden tasbar in the bottom right corner, can't turn off the pc with the start menu, can't open new webpage, it load infinitely. There are some differences at every crash, but in general it really similar to what you describe. I have this crash since I made my new build early december. I tried everything, new motherboard, new PSU, I made a memtest86+ and a memtest5 under anta777 for the ram, my GPU is from my old build, I changed the SSD, 980 PRO to 970 evo, new windows installation, stress test for the cpu (prime95 and cinebench) and other insignifiant things. Every test worked without any error.
The crash is really random, sometimes I can run for days without crash, and sometimes I can crash times in a day.
My build :
Asus ROG STRIX B550-A
Ryzen 5800X
MSI RTX 2060 Ventus
4x8 Curcial ballistix 3600cl16
Samsung 980 PRO

That was my story, so where I'm at now. My guess is : the bios is still not stable with the new ryzen cpu. You can see everywhere and with any brand of motherboard a lot of issue with the new cpu and they are working hard to find a stable bios. Why I'm thinking that? Because I tried a lot of things without any improvement and you, my friend and myself have the same crash and the only thing we have in common is the 5800x. Right now I'm on my longest period of stability, 10 days without crash. The last thing I did was update the bios for the last version at this moment (25th december), 1216 from asus, I was on the 1401 before that.

I'm still not sure, but it's the best I can guess for now with the information I have. Even if every day I'm more confident than the bios is the problem, I didn't see a lot of people with that specific crash. But we are atleast three now with that crash and with a new ryzen cpu (5800x).
How often you crash?
What is your SSD?
What is your bios version?

good to hear that it may be the BIOs. I am running the newest BIOs from Gigabyte. for what i know. updated it when i got the CPU a few days ago. but may keep an eye out for a new update.

But i do also think Razer Cortex with gaming boost is behind it. because in the settings it is doing something to the CPU and clears RAM data when opening a game and tries to get it all up and running again when closing the game. but i just tried to uninstall it now to see if it helps. but 3 people with 5800X with the same problem is not a coincidence.
Thank you for telling me that :)

and my crashes depends on what i am doing. but i have tried to have 8 a day.... were 6 of them happened at 5 minute intervals .... it crashed when it came to the desktop... but i think i have 1 or 3 per day
SSD : Samsung 860 EVO 250Gb (almost only for windows)

FOUND THE FIX FOR ME!!!!

It was Razer Cortex that messed with my CPU or RAM. i guess it was the CPU it messed with because it can wake up sleeping parts in the CPU for it to run faster. and Ryzen 5800X may not like that.

But the Fix was easy... just uninstall Razer Cortex. from 3-8 freeze a day down to 0 a day from the same task as the freezes would happen under.
