While getting overly tired of being kicked off of WOW's faltering, dry
heaving servers, I decided I'd like to go back to a gentle, more productive
time. In other words, Diablo.

Anyway, I'd like to start up a barbarian, and while I'm not looking for any
specific builds, I'm curious -- is it better to do a barbarian on 1.09 or
on 1.10? Is 1.10 a futile SP future for someone who is starting off
without any killer nuclear equipment?

Thanks. Oh, and any build suggestions based on version will, of course, be
appreciated.

one that has helped both my wife and I through a number of diablo
questions. for that both of us are very, very grateful to all. And, if the
people of this rather genuine community want to OT about the price of

I took an untwinked HC barb all the way through to Guardian in the first
1.10 ladder season, 99% solo. .09 is "easier", but 1.10 is doable and
what's current, so that's where I'd go.

A frenzy barb works, but might take a bit more barb-playing experience than
it sounds like you have, so I'd suggest a shield and probably Concentrate as
my basic skill for the first go at it. That's what the barb I mentioned
used.

That's a slow killer, though, and if you're not playing HC and don't mind
dying a bit, you might give Frenzy a try. All the mana burners in Hell make
WW tough, even for a seasoned barb player--I stayed away from it except for
limited spot use.

But yeah, to get back to your question, a SP barb in .09 or .10 is plenty
workable--it's just not the fastest way to hoe your row. 🙂

1.10 is a lot harder to beat in higher difficulties than 1.09,
especially for melee characters in SP (FE bug and other issues). About
the only barb i can think of that might have an easier time in 1.10 is a
throw barb because of the unique elite throwing weapons introduced with
1.10.
