i remember a long time ago on techtv (before it was g4techtv) there was this program that downloaded songs as you listened to them on internet radio stations... does anyone know of this program and where to get it? and is it still free? id like to extend my library without using other means of downloading 😛... i heard that this was completly legal too, or at least was (about a year ago)... thanks for the help

As far as I understand it, it should still be legal to do that because the broadcasters pay a fee just for that purpose, to compensate artists for people recording over the airwaves. That was a big kerfluffle with internet radio since they had to pay the same fee for the same reason but so many internet radio stations were like (in hippy voice) "We're free man. Down capitalism and stuff."

Since they're paying the fees for just that eventuality, you might as well make it worth their while, no?

As for programs to do that though, not a clue. It'd be easy enough to write one. The hard part would be assembling a good database of 5 second intros or so to compare against. Unless internet broadcasts have meta-information embedded on artist and title? No idea what format is used.

yea i usually would turn to google but i couldnt think of what to search for... and since u guys are probably a lot smarter than i r...
