I recently changed ISP from BT Infinity (UK)to SSE. Both offer VDSL fibre (75mbps). The modem/router supplied with BT was a Home Hub 5 which seemed reasonably good. Since I've switched my WiFi has been appalling. I have tried four different routers now:
Technicolor TG582N
Asus N66U
TP-LINK TD-W9980
Buffalo N600
What I don't understand is that my line speed is fine i.e 70mbps down and 18 up. This is stable. On every router above, the WiFi download speed is around 6-8 down and 15-18 up. This is even whilst testing the device using WiFi overview (app) stood next to the router. My modem is the Huawei HG612 which I unlocked. The router firmware's have been up to date.
How in Gods name can the wifi signal be this bad on all four routers? I have turned off all devices that may cause any interference. I have rebooted the modem and router each time. What else can the problem be?
I am not aware of any hadron colliders being operated by neighbours? This is driving me NUTZ!!!!! Just to be clear If the line speed is okay to the router I take it that the WiFi issue is merely a router problem (or something else)?
