Do you do an in place upgrade? If you did it does allow you to check what you want to bring over with the upgrade..you may have mistakenly not selected to bring over documents. You can try going into your users folder and under that specific account to see if their still there.

You might want to look and see if there is a Windows.old folder. If it exists then the files you are missing may be in there provided you did an in place upgrade and not a clean install.
