I made a new Crafter

So I cheated, I bought an advanced Smith character.

She now has:

Blacksmith - 85
Mining - 85
Armslore - 85
Tinkering - 70
Tailoring - 70
Str - 100, Dex - 90, Int - 25

What would be good skill additions to this template?

It occurs to me that when mining, she would be defenseless. I have another
character that I am going to modify that has about 50 swords, parry, tactics
and 50 mage/med. I could use the solestone to transfer either the weapons
skills or mage skill to the crafter.

Thanks for the replys, I think I'll go with the mage. It will take a while
before she gets enough mage to cast gate.

Baydlor; how does your character generate mana? You don't have focus or med
in the skills. Does he wear armor?

Magery and Carpentry?

Well, you probably will need magery just for moving around - even with the
new features of the runebooks, they don't help with casting gate. Plus
that way you could defend yourself until your manna evaporated.
Hmmm...dex doesn't help craft skills, does it? Probably up the Int if it
doesn't.

I went Smith 110, Tailor 120, Tinker GM, Carpenter GM, Fletcher GM, Music
45, and magery 100 on my crafter. He can make any craftable item, travel
with his golem using gatespells, and fight alone with mage weapons or
summoned earthies if needed.

My miners have always been spellslingers since it was handy to have the gate
spell in the pre-bonding days to get your packers from place to place. Pick
a ranged attack ability because your packers will charge anything that lives
long enough to get close and die fairly easily.

It makes no sense for a packhorse to charge over and hop on an ogres dinner
plate instead of running the other way, but they do it. :)

Can a "Bag of Sending" be used to send ore and/or ingets to my bank box? If
so, it could eliminate the need to take pack animals along.

He just waits for it to regen. Takes a few minutes, but since he's normally
non-combat it's not really a problem.

He occasionally hunts with his golem or earthies, though if the monster is a
caster and targets him, he runs out of mana casting Greater Heal real quick
and has to high-step-it for the hills. :)

As long as there is space in your bank box and you can fit the object into
your pack (unless that limit was removed) you can move anything with those
little magic bags. :)

Don't worry about over saturation just yet. I've never had it
happen to me, and I use the things constantly. Although, I do
die every couple weeks and abandon my body, thus starting on a
new bag. Might happen after a couple hundred charges.

The bags and powder are way over priced on vendors. 20K for a
bag seems average on Baja, and 3K for 10 charges, if memory
serves. But don't worry about that either.

Get your mage in to ele summoning skill range. I use fire on all
bug-like creatures, but earthies will do fine if you can summon
pairs.

What I'm about to say won't make any sense, till you get there,
and look at the ant hills on UOAM.

Drop in to the ant hive at the Yew entrance. Hide or invis and
take a look at UOAM. You want to follow the right most path, in
a W pattern to the next hole. Nothing tougher than Sollen
Workers here.

Drop down that hole and go upwards, bearing to your left.
There's Sollen Warriors here, just blaze on past em. There's a
path forking off downwards, skip it and you will see the next
hole right in front of you, to the west.

Drop down that hole and yer in the Matriarch's lair. This is a
safe place, she's the only critter here, and the worst she will
do is snub you. Can you handle a snubbing?

The Matriarch's area is a square, with ant holes in the four
corners. You just arrived by the upper left hole. The lower
right hole will get you to the Ambitious Queen.

Mix of warriors and workers, just run past everything till you
locate the queen. You need a few moments with her, to read a
couple pages of instructions, so you may have to kill something.
Lay out an EV and get on with business, you should be ok. Click
her once and "talk". BTW, she's usually on the upwards fork of
this path, but not always.

Right then, yer on the quest now. Here's where it gets
dangerous, on account of all that acid. You know about the acid,
right? Try to recruit a hive friended mage to do some healing
for you.

I've had it happen with a new bag. I think they're like firehorns - no
specific number of uses but each time you recharge them there is a small
chance to oversaturated. Just guessing though.

If you have a stack of powder that will charge the bag over 30, it will
oversaturate the bag.

You can send ore with a bag of sending, but the bags do ware out.
They are rather expensive to buy, and a little hard to get to use them for
that purpose. Get a bug. You can ride it and use it for moving things.

About the skills you ask about on your first post.
What do you have "Arms Lore" for. I have found no good use for
arms lore.

I put crafts on two characters so I would have room for a fighting
skill, but I understand why people put all the crafts on one character
if they only have one account.

If you are going to put Carpentry on this character, it will need Magery
at over 80, to make Pentagram.

Drop the dex to 15 or 20, and bring up Int as high as you can get it.
Dex does not help in crafting, but high Int will help in casting spells.

Smithing 120,
Mining 100
Tailoring 120
Carpentry 100
Tinkering 80 - 100
Magery 80 - 100
That's 640 skill points used if you take Tinkering and Magery to 100.
You have 60 points for music or something else. (You need 40 points of
Music to make music instruments).

Fletching is useless at this time. There are too many good bows dropped
at the bank, and on every low level monster. No one buys GM made bows.

Just MHO,

Ice

Although possible, I have my doubts. I'm just not lucky enough
to have dodged a random hit.

>If you have a stack of powder that will charge the bag over 30, it will
>oversaturate the bag.

Incorrect. I have never selected a specific amount to charge
from. Although, that may be true if combined by with other
factors.

To date, I have _never_ had a bag of sending or a pet ball turn
over saturated. I have seen them, and know it can happen, but
it's never happened to me. Only a certain number of charges, or
a number of re-chargings, could cause over saturation. That's my
theory, and I'm sticking to it!

BTW, anyone ever seen arcane clothing lose the ability to be
recharged?

You get Arcane Gems as loot off of Controllers, Exodus Overseers, Golems,
Juka Lords and Juka Mages. Basically take a trip to Wrong Dungeon and load

That can't be right. I've always recharged from my large pile (over 1000)
of powder of translocation and it doesn't oversaturate the bag - just uses
up 30 powder and recharges the bag completely. By the way, on Lake Austin,
I sell bags of sending for 6000 gold.

After I got killed 3 times trying the Queen Ant quest, I decided it would be
cheaper to buy one. Everytime I got killed, it cost me 3k insurance on 10
items. I paid 20k for the bag. The only place I could find them was in Luna
on Baja.

Clock? New one on me.

Robe, cloak, gloves, or thigh boots. All but the gloves are
useless clothing, resist wise.

My tailor, 95 or so skill, makes it with 19 charges. 100 point
tailors 20 charges, legendary tailors 24 charges. I assume 22
charges for elder.

Anyone can re-charge an item, but they don't get all the charges.
I believe I get 16 out of 20 when I, a non tailor, recharge my
items.

Hehe. It took me till now to realize that's a typo up there.
Pity, I wouldn't mind a perpetual clock on my wall.

That's a more reasonable price.

I've always scoffed at the bags on vendors, but now that I'm
thinking about it, why not charge arms and legs if someone is too
lazy to earn their own?

Mind you, I gave Wizard of Love a mill for a handful of Katanas,
so what do I know about sensible shopping?

BTW, I'm cleaning up an account for deletion, and have several
bags of sending on Atlantic, if anyone wants one. Only charged
the once, for whatever it took to take em from quested charges to
30.

I thought I told you to take yer mage in there. Granted, it's
dicey, but get the hang of it and you could be the one earning

My mage is only has 81.6 mage skill today. She needs a ring of +4 magery to
cast summon spells 1 out of 4. She is the one that got killed. I will
defiantly try it again after she gets more experience.

I just got a few from a little corner of Ilshenar. I ran the gauntlet to the
Gargoyle city and from there went steadily to the other area to the north of
that. On the north wall of that second area there is a small mining camp. I
killed some sort of floating octopus and a red guy in a red robe (Controller
and Exodus Overseer, I presume, I forget the names they had.). Both of these
had arcane gems. Little to nothing seems to spawn on the north-west to west
rim of that volcano-thing so there was plenty of room for my mage to run
around. The controlled gargoyles didn't have much of anything interesting
besides gold, though.
