So I wanted to move the default documents to my d drive but instead of creating a documents in d, it just unpacked the whole folder into D. So im going back to try and just recreate the documents folder in user c. Since a lot of apps use this as the default place to save, a new folder called documents in c should work the same right? Also for whatever reason when I click on documents in my quick access it shows the whole D drive named as documents with everything I have on it.

I solved the problem myself. If anyone else happens to have this problem I solved it by restoring the folders default location. What happened is I didn't create a new documents folder in D so it kind of merged the folders together. So I deleted all the files that came over from c documents. Then when I tried to restore default location I was denied access. I actually think its because it wanted to move my whole D drive to my ssd which doesn't have nearly that kind of space. So instead of moving all files when prompted I selected no. This created the old c/user/documents folder in its original place and I just copy pasted my files back.

Keeping anything in the default folders (My Documents, My Music etc), isnt a good idea; if you ever have to do a repair of the OS, it may wipe the contents. (Some say it doesnt, but I have had mine wiped in the past).

Better to create a NEW Documents folder (as you tried), and just change the default "save to" location to the new folder.

My OS is on C: ; documents, music, film and program download storage is on E: and then the most important backed up to F: as well.

REALLY important stuff (like family photos) are duplicated across 3 PCs and a network storage device, as well as a cloud store.
