[SOLVED] I messed up when applying thermal paste and need advice ?

I accidentally got thermal paste on my Ryzen 3600x pins and in the mobo socket, now my pc lights come on but no video signal or anything beyond this. Is it possible i destroyed my pc or if i clean it will it be fine ?

Oh boy that is very bad. Be very very careful cleaning both. Do you have a pic you can post?

I can later its not bad i got most out but there is a little bit between the pins on cpu and im not sure if there is any left in the socket and im not sure how i can check

What kind of paste was it? If the paste you used was conductive……

If the paste was not conductive and you can fully clean the cpu and socket with isopropyl alcohol and let them dry, maybe you have a chance? But if the thermal paste was conductive, arctic silver 5 for example, your cpu and board are probably gone.

I would take the mobo completely down and use some brake parts cleaner to get the paste out of the socket area. Spray it down with some multi purpose spray, blow it off really well. Probably a good idea (after that) to attempt to boot the computer fully outside the case "breadboarded" as we call it. Make sure to set the motherboard down on something non conductive, such as it's box.

Came across that on a quick search. They didn’t think that paste was conductive. If you are very lucky and clean it well, perhaps it will work again.

Ok i think i can clean the cpu but if not i have replacement on it but the mobo i have nothing so i guess worst case i buy new mobo

Also how would my pc react to starting it with thermal paste on cpu pins and socket?

With conductive thermal paste you’d probably short circuit both of them. According to the thread I linked they don’t think that paste is conductive.

Ok so i have since cleaned them both and attempted to start it on box everything powers on but i have no video signal any suggestions?

Are you plugging into the motherboard output or graphics card? That cpu does not have integrated graphics.

Into the gpu ive tried x2 gpus x3 monitor several cords still nothing

Any beep codes? If you have a motherboard speaker plugged into the board, you should get a single beep if it’s posting properly. Or there would be a series of beeps for ram or video etc.

Zero beeps fans and rgb start up like normal just no video could it be a cpu or mobo problem?

Way to know would be try another working cpu.

Unfortunately i dont have another am4 cpu thats y i havnt tested it

I guess you could go for a new board since that’s cheaper than a cpu, then test the old cpu, if that doesn’t work you could rma the cpu, not sure how long that would take though.

I have a replacement warranty on my cpu so its covered but i have to drive 3 hrs to physical store to get it
