What was keep like.

well, it was like a cross between, urogue,Ularn, and diablo.

But better than all 3.

As a UCSC undergrad in the late 80s I remember well when first KEEP
came alive.

there were 20-30? ish dungeon levels
and every 3 levels there was an entrance to a bonus/themed level

Keep in mind I havnt played this game in over 10 years so my memory is
full of holes. (But boy do I wax nostalgic for Keep)

Levels 1-3 (garden)
Bonus level Rat warrens Slay the Rat King
Levels 4-6 courtyard
bonus level Hive Slay the Wasp king/queen
levels 7-9 outer bailey?
Bonus level kennels Slay the kennel master and his 3 nasty dogs
levels 12-15 inner bailey
Bonus level (Charons moat) Give an obulus to charon ;-)
1evels 16-19 keep
Bonus level torture chamber
20-23 outer cloister?
bonus (fairy's land?)
--

anyway, it also had a special level with a wizards workroom.
and the final level with the battle with the concil.

Maybe there were 30-40 levels in all

the variety of weapons/armor was astounding
fire/litning/acid etc weapons
also slaying properties undead,insect,etc

tons of armor,gaunlets/boots/helms/etc.

What really made keep unique, was that there were 7-9? different gods
and you could sacrifice to them to get gifts,
ranging from potion effects to permanent stat, weapon boosts.
also you could become an avater to a god for a unique weapon/armor and
immunites.

you could also sacrifice stuff to a god to have it grant you
resistance to a type of attack/penalty

i.e. acid resistance, electric resistance, paralysis
resistance, blindness resistance, etc, 14-16 immunities in all.

stats
str
end
willpower
quickness?coordination?
and 2-3 Im forgetting.

I cant do it justice,
but every time I think of.

"A brilliant flash of holy radiance" I smile and wish I could play my
favorite old school game again.

I really miss keep, if there was any game I could bring back from the
dead it would be KEEP

Better than Hack, better than Ularn, Better than Urogue.

Keep, the best of them all.

So far, I have found exactly one reference to this game.
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/games/roguelike/info-ftp/section-5.html

What "legal" reasons keep this game from seeing the light of day,
again? That reference does not go into detail. "Keep" sounds
interesting. I wish we could all see it.
