I've been building a pc for my friend. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing but I know nothing about CPUs.

He has a budget of £800 maximum

The build consist of :

Motherboard : Gigabyte - GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard

RAM : Corsair - Vengeance 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (He has two of these)

HHD : Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

GPU : Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Windforce OC Video Card

PSU : Cooler Master - MasterWatt 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

The CPU was meant to be a

AMD - FX-4100 3.6GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor

But I've heard bad things and decided to avoid the FX series all together.

Can anyone give me some pointers? Thanks alot.

Now we are talking :)
From his build, we should still re-use these:
HDD : Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU : Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Windforce OC Video Card
PSU : Cooler Master - MasterWatt 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
The case, keyboard, monitor, optical drive (if any), speakers, mouse...
Yes, going for AMD FX platform is a bad idea.
It is old and already considered too slow for todays new AAA games.
hmmm...those components you listed are already bought or still in planing? or...was it you want to upgrade from those?
It is not that clear to me.

even upon release the fx 4100 was a weak peformer..... and that was nearly 10 years ago.

I would try to get something like this :)

Yes you're right to avoid the FX since it's pretty dated. AMD have already come out with a successor to it and they're on their 2nd Generation of Ryzen CPU's. If anything, the build needs to be rebuilt using a current gen CPU which would mean you're looking at a CPU+Mobo+Ram purchase.

Your post stylizing is a little confusing, are you looknig for a CPU(processor) upgrade or a system rebuild(or an upgrade)? I'd get a new mobo+CPU+Ram and a better PSU+an SDD. You forgot to include the age of the PSU and the make and model of your case.

This is his first pc so he hasn't got anything to upgrade, we haven't bought any of the components yet.

You just have to ditch/sell on eBay the FX4100, the mobo and RAM kit.
All you need for now is to get a new processor, mobo and RAM.
I would start considering Ryzen 5 2600, a decent B450 mobo a,d 2x8GB DDR4 which can go to 3200MHz.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Blackfox2001 : "I need help with making a PC"

So my friend recently asked if i could help make him a PC, since I've made my own and did so pretty well i thought I'd be fine making one. Boy was i wrong, All of the components i have that i know Were good in their time are all out of date.

He has an £800 budget and wants to use the PC mostly for gaming.

The only conditions are :
The Mobo has to be ATX
The graphics card has to be a GTX 1050Ti
There has to be 16Gb of RAM (one or two sticks, is ok)
It has to be able to run windows 10 64bit

That's all, I'd Really appreciate the help.
