I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2717 and I need a new battery. My question is what capacity does it need to be or does that not mater?

I'd suggest always buying genuine OEM batteries. The compatible ones are not guaranteed to work even if they claim they are and very often use low quality cells that die after a short while.
