As. Soon. As. Possible.

And here I thought 1GHz would be enough for the forseeable future.

The future is here. It's called Thief: Deadly Shadows. And it wants me
to have a better machine. I probably won't be able to get to play this
for another month, at least.

It runs great on my system !

Unfortunately, my 19" monitor died yesterday, and now I'm using a 14"
monitor with not green component.

<grrrrr>

It'll be a month or so before I can afford a replacement.

Unless I win the lottery tonight !

I must admit I haven't even attempted it, since mine is so far short of
the published minimum specs.

Yuk!

Not even used? Where I live it's possible to pick up a perfectly usable
19" CRT for less than $100. Some of them are practically new and
unused, either leftovers from a dot-com or victims of companies
switching over to flat panel displays.

Good luck!

I've been checking prices, and I can get a new 17" CRT for £80 or so.
This is more or less the price I'd pay for an used one, so I was
pleasantly surprised.

Unfortunately, I have a pile of bills to pay, so my money is accounted
for for the next few weeks...

I won £10 !

But as it was a huge jackpot, I'd bought an extra £10 worth of
tickets...

I wonder if I'll be alright with my 16MB Voodoo 3 3000 :))

Sadly I love the old 3dfx cards, don't wanna let go, so I guess it will
be Thief 2 FM's and Thievery UT for another year or so.

I know, that's my problem.

Might even, sacrilege, buy an Xbox as it's virtually the same price as a
new card. Must admit that would be the first time ever to buy a console
and I'm not good with joysticks at all, so it probably won't happen,
but there's a lot of good games out now on that one.
Anybody played MANHUNT and can give some feedback if it's worth buying?

I played it for half an hour at a relative's home and it's OK if
you like that sort of thing. Not in the same league as Thief as
far as I'm concerned though. Think we were on the Playstation
(he has all the consoles so I can't always remember)

I forget the whole story but it is something like you have been
forced to go around killing people with a camera attached to
make snuff movies for someone. You sneak round a grey sombre
city area and assassinate pretty well anyone you come across
using whatever comes to hand - plastic bag over the head, shard
of glass - rather nasty really. As with Thief, ideally you try
to sneak up behind your victim rather than face to face combat.
I also recall a 'radar' display that shows the direction of
victims. I think all the victims are bad guys so that makes it
all right to kill them if you see what I mean.

Don't know if it developed into something more interesting later
but what I saw was fun for half an hour but not sure how long it
would hold my interest. It played OK but I don't like 3rd
person.

I've been playing Prince of Persia which is sumptuously better
than Manhunt but again, the 3rd person camera switches distract
me. If you don't mind that and like a 3D platformer then get POP
- it is very polished.

Thanx Fidcal for your feedback, I don't like 3rd person either so will
stop thinking of buying this game right now!
