Hi, I'm thinking of buying a new CPU because mine is quite old and could be better but I need some help with which one I should buy next, I want to get the highest FPS possible in fortnite on lowest settings but 3d resolution set to 100% on 1080p monitor.
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX1050ti
If you need anymore information then I'd be happy to let you know, thank you very much! (my current CPU is AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor)

the 8350 is a supported CPU, but it would be pushing the VRM's that you have on that board and it also pushes the box cooler to its limits. Having just upgraded from one, it does handle games fairly well, but there is the same architectural speed deficiency that can't be solved unless you go for a platform swap. Here is a list of CPU's I have done tests in Cinebench R15 for comparison, note the single & multi core 8350 speed is at 4.5 ghz on a good motherboard with a 212 evo

EDIT: typo, all my scores for the 8350 are at 4.5ghz, which I wasn't going to run 24/7

sorry.. im a complete noob, what are the numbers for?

Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

You need to find out which.
------------------------------------------------------------
To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run this tests.

Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

If you decide you need more cpu power, a FX-8350 is not likely to do the job.
You will be getting 4 more cores, but no real increase on per core performance.

For that, look to a current gen intel or ryzen upgrade.
You will also need a new motherboard and DDR4 ram.

my FPS stayed the same, thanks for the info!

I was thinking of upgrading to 1660ti and the fx 8350? Im just not sure if it would bottleneck

Running any older (i.e., pre-Ryzen) AMD system pretty much means getting half (or less) of the potential framerates possible due to processor limitations...

Sinking more money into AM3 is a mistake.

You need new CPU/MB/RAM...

Ryzen 3600 and a compatible B450/X470/X570 mainboard and 16 GB of DDR4 3200-3600 MHz RAM is the obvious defacto 'go to' these days...(About $400$450 should get you there, and you can upgrade the GPU when you see fit, as the GTX1050 is already challenged at 1080P medium-high settings...

(The 1660 does OK, but the RX580 is the best deal, short of finding an RTX2060 on sale at $285 again, etc...)

So if I upgrade to this ASRock MicroATX Motherboard (B450M PRO4) + Ryzen 5 3600X + Nvidia GTX 1660Ti it will be working well? Thanks!

Instead of the 1660, do you think I should get either https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zotac-GAMI...ds=2060+super&qid=1565128871&s=gateway&sr=8-1 or https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-256-Bi...eywords=rx580&qid=1565128962&s=gateway&sr=8-2 ? Thanks for your help!! UPDATE: just looked at some benchmarks video, and the 1660ti was getting 20-40 frames more and -4ms, so I will probably be getting 1660 or 2060 super!

RAM has nothing to do with your 'data'.

You're considering building a whole new PC.
As such, it will almost certainly require a full wipe and reinstall.
This is when you save your personal data somewhere else, before you start.
ok awesome thanks! Do you know if the motherboard I listed above is the best option, or is there any better ones that you know of? Thanks!

Stay away from the FX platform. While they are... ahem, 'affordable', it's a red herring.
They are garbage at this point.

If budget is that tight, I'd suggest saving up/aiming for this at a minimum:
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor (£112.50 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: ASRock B450M-HDV Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard (£54.57 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £167.07
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Yes, thanks I wanted to buy ryzen 3600X + either a 1660ti or a 2060 super, I dont know which motherboard to use though, was thinking either the one you listed or a MSI B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard

I've heard mixed results with that board, so I can't really comment about it.
It has a 3 year warranty, take advantage of that. If something does happen after the warranty, you'll probably be in a position to replace it, or the cpu/mobo/ram combo anyway.

ok, warranty sounds good, can you recommend any good ram / memory, thanks!
