I need a new mouse...

Recently my mouse has been showing signs of it failing (the mouse itself is slowing up, I can't hit my targets because the cursor speed will randomly decrease). Its a wired optical mouse I got for about $30 almost 4 years ago. The only reason I've kept it this long is because my hand is about 7 inches (from bottom of palm to tip of index) and this mouse was the only one that was actually able to fit my hand and not feel like I'm moving a pebble ~,~.

I'd like to get a new mouse. I do a bit of gaming so preferably a gaming mouse. What differences can I expect when moving from an optical mouse to a laser one? And what mouse would you suggest for $30-$40?

The logitech g400 is a great option, find it on sale, and you're good. I also...

The logitech g400 is a great option, find it on sale, and you're good. I also have larger hands (7.5 inches) and I don't dominate the mouse in size very much. It is very ergonomic. Or The m500 is an okay regular mouse if you can't dish out 60 dollars. I think size is similar. And the tracking is just better, I can't say much other than to expect a better overall experience.

Hey! I use a Gigabyte Avia Krypton. My hands are 6.8 inches. The mouse is quite good but if you are resting your fingers on the buttons you can miss click.

That's a good mouse (but G500s is better) and it isn't in his price range. And it is a smaller mouse.
