I really only need 500watt why does Newegg say 657 are they trying to get me to overspend also I'm going to upgrade my video card as soon as they become available.

a 550W is more than enough even if u r to upgrade to a gtx1080. other than the s12 520w, the corsair cxm550 is also a good choice.

if u really want a bigger headroom and a fantastic unit, the g3 650 fits ur bill @70 bucks https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438094&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

now u can get a 1080ti if u want and dont have to worry abt PSU with that g3 650W ;)

ok im so scared because newegg said 657 its like wtf my current psu is a 620 it ran the 7950 8gb ram and a8-6600k which needs more power than my current build my psu is just old

Yes.

That's an overestimate. Maybe if you run HD 7950 CF, then you would need that much power. Besides, the wattage isn't the most important part of this. It comes down to the total continuous amps on the +12V rails. Also, a quality PSU is better than quantity.

You will have to decide if you want to run only one HD 7950 or two in CF, and then we can provide the best option for you.
