Hey guys,

I was contacted by my step-mum today about getting my little brother a gaming PC as an Xmas gift and as I'm the only one in the family who knows what they're doing with PCs she has asked me to find a PC or build a PC within a very very very tight budget of £170... and it needs to run Fortnite... at 1st I thought this sounded next to impossible but I've compiled a short list of links together of a system I think will run it at a reasonable rate and make my little brother's Xmas a great one but I just want some second opinions about it before I go a buy the hardware as I've barely slept over the past week so may have made some simple mistakes.

Thank you all in advance and hope you all have a great day,

-Doug

I've been recommended to scrap the CPU and GPU to replace it with the Ryzen 3 3200G with its VEGA 8 graphics, just want to get more input before I proceed, my little brother's Xmas is in my hands and don't want to mess it up for him.

Solution
As soon as I saw the CPU and GPU I was thinking one of the Ryzen APUs would be a better choice overall.

Personally would go with the 2400G over the 3200G. A bit of searching shows a Ryzen 5 2400G is available for £80 from Cex. CPU-wise there's not much difference on single thread (3200G is slightly better), but graphics-wise the 2400G has Vega 11 compared to the 3200G's Vega 8.

The Corsair VS isn't really rated that well (at least amongst tech enthusiast community), but for the price point... there's little choice. Certainly be something to consider upgrading when possible (and when the need of a graphics card arises).

The tight budget is a concern. What cooler do you have available? Unless it's fairly new I would wonder if it'll...

The tight budget is a concern. What cooler do you have available? Unless it's fairly new I would wonder if it'll have the AM4 mounting brackets required. Just be aware of that. Cables is another part to consider too just in case. Also Windows licence another, as well as the peripherals (mouse, keyboard and speakers) and, of course, display.

That's my tuppence of opinion anyway.

It's only the hardware I need, everything else is sorted and I have a copy of Windows 10 all ready to go, I have a spare wraith cooler from my personal computer after installing an AIO so I was going to use that. Thanks for your reply and suggestion, I'll look into it and a friend mentioned they may have an old spare corsair 550W PSU i can have for the build.

If I were you I would try to find a used tower, and add something like a used rx 560 or 570. I would recommend one of the HP Elitedesks for the tower. The Elitedesks have either i5 processors, or if you get lucky you can find some with i7s. Used ones are about $100 to $150 (i5). Try looking on school/college surplus stores for the towers, as you can usually find good deals on them.
