I need a surround sound system for my bedroom. It's about 15'x17' or so. Decent sized. I have a PS3, Wii, PC, and DirectTV HD reciever that I'll be using it with.

I currently got a cheap Samsung, which sounds fine, but it's not functioning as I'd hoped. It has an optical audio in, but no HDMI ports. I thought if I hooked everything up HDMI to my TV and then had an optical out from my TV to the reciever, everything should be fine, but I'm not getting surround sound through the reciever that way. So I'm guessing I have to plug everything into the reciever and then output from there to the TV. So I'll need at least 3 HDMI inputs on the reciever.

This really will be my first true surround sound system. Not sure if I need 5.1 or 7.1, but I'm open to suggestions. My budget is only pushing about $500 max, but of course I'd be happier going lower if the bang for the buck is good. I can't squeeze more than $500 at this time, but if there is something in the $600 or so range, perhaps if it's good enough to wait for, then I can do that.

Please advise a guy! Am I hooking things up correctly with what I have? Or do I need a new system? New reciever? What? Help me out.

By the way, my current system is a SAMSUNG HT-Z320 5.1-Channel Home Theater System
