I need a ThunderBolt 3 PCIe Card to interface to an External RAID5 Storage device.

The RAID 5 + spare storage will comprise of four 10TB 3.5" hard drives for a total usable space of about 20TB.

My motherboard is an:

ASUS Prime Q270M-C with 64GB RAM
CPU is an Intel i7-7700K 4.2GHz
Mobo chipset is Intel Q270.

The ThunderBolt 3 interface will be used only for the RAID5 external storage (no monitor hookups needed). I have a single PCIe 1x slot available to use - it now has a FireWire 800 card in it.

FireWire 800 gets up to 800 Mbits/sec.

Thunderbolt 3 gets up to 10 Gbits/sec. Thus my decision to go to ThunderBolt 3.

A significant part of the data that I will be storing on the RAID5 drive is video so I need the fastest interface I can get. The ThunderBolt 3 card will replace the FireWire 800 card.

I am having difficulties figuring out a suitable ThunderBolt 3 PCIe card that will work with my Asus set up. It seems that all the info on Thunderbolt cards is for video monitors.

Thanks!

Thanks. I suspected that. I guess I need to look for USB 3.2 Gen 2 and find a RAID case that supports it. Or maybe the new 20 Gbps version.

I do not plan on changing mobos anytime soon.
