I am trying to make a PC that would be a good gaming PC around the 1500-2000 price range. I have linked everything that I will buy.

most of the list - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pbvKdD

graphics card - https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Gef...Cards&qid=1612371777&s=pc&sr=1-6&ts_id=284822

CPU - https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i7-10700k-core-i7-10th-gen/p/N82E16819118123?Item=N82E16819118123&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-PCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https://pcpartpicker.com/&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFs-lkOUb7c3S.gfiJFL1iqQFw

I will eventually buy a RTX 3080. I am considering buying a better motherboard, but for my setup I am not sure if I need one. I also don't understand the importance in investing in better cooling, as I am not sure I am going to need it. I really just want to run engineering software and also run RTX software on Minecraft, as well as possibly play overwatch with ultra settings. As long as I am above 60fps, I really don't care. I already have a monitor, external storage, keyboard, and mouse. Please let me know if I have made any mistakes, and give me some tips on building. Thanks.

Intel Rocket Lake chips natively support 3200MHz RAM where as the locked Comet Lake chips didn't support RAM past 2933MHz and that was a choke point. The new Intel Rocket Lake boards (Z590 / B560) support up to 4800MHz RAM (O/C) along with the combination of the rocket lake chips & boards also supporting PCIe 4.0

Intel Rocket Lake i5-11400F CPU $160 - $170 (would be my guess)

The board in the PCPartPicker list is a Z390 chipset which only supports 9th Gen processors from Intel. You will need either a Z490 or a Z590 chipset. You will need at least a 240mm AIO or a 360mm AIO to tame the heat from the processor. If you don't think you need to spend that much on cooling for the processor, you could wait for the CPU to croak before you reinvest on a processor or a cooling solution provided it doesn't wear out prematurely due to heat(or thermal throttles).

Motherboard (socket 1151) and CPU (socket 1200) are not compatible. Swap out the motherboard for a Z490 or B460 chip set motherboard.

Thanks a lot guys. Here is my updated list.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/T9Z8Cz

I took your advice for the cooling as well as the motherboard, so everything should be compatible now. However, I would like to cut some of the cost down if possible, so if you guys have any suggestions for that, it would be pretty sick. Perhaps there are cheaper alternatives for the cooling, motherboard, or power supply you guys would recommend?

Edit:

I did some searching. Here is a list so you guys see what I mean. If this is ok, I will likely buy this later today.

The first list with the Z490 board is good .. the second one with the B460 board is not so good.

Why can't i use a B460 board? Is it because it lowers performance? I'd like a high-end, but I don't really need a top end PC. As I said, I would like to run games using the RTX 3080, so if I can't use that graphics card with the B460 then that pretty much seals the deal.

The B460 boards don't support 3200MHz RAM. You can use it with those boards but you won't be getting the full meal deal with it.

Don't buy anything yet. If you can hold on for 6 weeks you're going to hit pay dirt with this advice. I'll post why in my next post ... on the phone atm but you'll understand why in about 15 minutes from now.

Am I going to invest in Gamestop or something? To be honest, I've been waiting for over 4 months to get a PC, but I have been waiting for the RTX 3080 stock and it looks like I won't get one until May. I might as well get a cheap graphics card that can suffice for a while, until a stable market appears for the card.

This is the Comet Lake (10th gen.) version of that cpu. Expect the 11400F to perform even better in games due to improved IPC and natively supporting 3200MHz RAM.

These are just a few of those B560 boards that started to show up this week. Money savers.

Thanks for letting me know about this. How confident are you about them releasing the 11th gen for desktops in 6 weeks? I am interested in this now because a 20% or more speed increase would be pretty sweet if I could get about the same price for it.

Unlike AMD, Intel has been good with keeping their cpu's in supply. In fact so good that I've seen price drops on some Intel Comet Lake cpu's on newegg this past week where as the AMD chips are either spendy or not in stock.
