Well it really depends on your budget but you're looking at getting a 600W PSU and spending at least $300 to play at high settings. Right now, the Radeon cards have the GeForce cards beat at almost every price point. Here's the rundown on what you can get:

$300 - Radeon HD 7970/R9-280X
$400 - Radeon R9-290
$500 - GeForce GTX 780
$550 - Radeon R9-290X

I put the GTX 780 there because AMD has nothing at $500, but the $400 R9-290 easily matches (or beats) the performance of the GTX 780 and the $550 R9-290X matches the performance of the GTX 780Ti which costs $700. Hope this helps you.

Don't get an expensive $500 card as your cpu would bottleneck it, I personally would get a gtx 760, z87 mobo and a i5 4670k. This will refresh your system entirely for around $550. Please don't listen to people saying to get a gtx 780 as I would be useless with your cpu.

Update: This will also give you future upgradablilty.

You can pay $50 more for the gtx 760 but since both are on par with each other.
So it is not worth it unless you want to use shadowplay and physx (gtx 760) which are both awesome

This... If you spend $500 on a card just for your processor to bottleneck it that'd be a big waste of money unless you would want to buy a new processor.
