I Need CPU Help. (Best Answer Will Award)

I currently have a AMD Athlon x4 650 processor which is going to bottleneck my GTX 660 III Overclocked Twin Frozr GPU. I need information about how to know what a good CPU and Motherboard is. What is compatible with each other. What should I skim on budget wise. AMD or Intel and maybe if you don't feel like explaining all this, a video guide.

yeah i got u on that lol the benchmark i gave u shows and concludes at the end with the 6300 beating that i3 build, and ive seen ppl pair i3s with 7850s which is pretty close to the 660gtx, so i guess that makes the fx better since the price is the same for each to be shipped out to u basically.

Personally i like the amd one since even tho intel cpus are core per core faster than amd having the 6 core over a dual core with hyper threading making it 4 threads/cores seems better and in gaming purposes benchmark wise the fx won.

Also either way its gets a nice motherboard which its one of them things i prefer not to cheap out on, and u get the free ram with either buy.

To be clear neither should bottleneck ur 660 gtx lol

budget amd wins and not sure how well going to a athlon x4 to a phenom II x4 is for bottlenecking a 660 gtx, but should be better and easiest upgrade as u have a am3 motherboard, if am3+, then an fx piledriver cpu. Intel is best solution with a ASRock Z77 extreme 4/6 being recommended and i5 3570k/2500k, but an i3 will work and usually better than a PII X4.

Intel Socket 1155 will match any sandy bridge or ivy bridge cpu being the 2nd and 3rd gen core i3/i5/i7 series cpus or 2xxx 3xxx model numbers. and ur athlon an am3 will work in an AM3/am3+ motherboard and fx only in AM3+. FX cpus being bulldozer 41xx/6100/6200/6300/81xx cpus piledriver being 4300/6300/83xx cpus on the am3+, and Phenoms II X4/X6 on AM3 and AM3+, saying since u mentioned compatible not sure if u know sockets matching as its kind of self explanatory but some seem to not get it

Could you recommend me a CPU, Motherboard that will not bottleneck my GTX 660 and is affordable?

well the intel side the ASRock and i5 will def not bottleneck the 660GTX, even an i3 3220 wont.

AMD wise im not to sure on cpu wise but a good decent AMD motherboard is if u dont mind buying open boxed items Newegg has the ASUS Sabertooth 990fx for $131 from $180 ish, or new id go with a MSI 990fxa motherboard dont remember exacts but has 990fxa and gd65 or 80 in it. Pretty sure without having experience or knowledge of amd bottlenecks with a 660gtx that any of the FX piledriver 8 cores wont bottleneck but im guessing a Phenom II x6 should be fine and maybe the x4, not to sure on the fx 6300 as havent seen many benchmarks and stuff.

Could I install a fx-8150 in my current motherboard or am i just an Idiot? and if so is an 8150 worth it?

if u have an AM3+ motherboard then getting a bulldozer or piledriver is ur best route, but if u had to get a new motherboard for amd and getting lets say the new 8350, both together basically equals same cost of going i5/z77

Since its a prebuilt HP desktop its going to be just an AM3 motherboard, and cheap one at that lol My opinion as only a Phenom II X4/X6 is ur only upgrade path and prob a 95watt cpu which most PIIs still for sale are 125Watts, meaning almost no upgrade path unless u find a 95watt x4/x6. Best bet to get new motherboard/cpu/ and if u want a new case lol as at this point u basically replaced the whole pc alrdy

if u buy now and get the free ram and use it, if u get crashes or it doesnt work with the mix of the ram u have, then u prob cant use one or the other together, or make sure there both set to 1333Mhz which the 1600 gskill free one should do automatically.

Id say later on get a new case with better ventilation than the HP one, maybe a cpu cooler if it comes to temps being an issue, a cooler master hyper 212 evo is usually the best deal
