I need DirectX?

Hello, I just brought a new computer from iBUYPOWER, my first gaming PC and its pretty sick. Well it came with windows 8.1 and my problem is every time I try to play a game on steam it says. You need the latest version of Microsoft DirectX(r).

I'd call iBUYPOWER but they wont be open until tomorrow.

If these will help anyone in helping solving my issue my specs are

Mobo: Msi something :3
16 gigs of ram
i7-4790k from intel
gtx GeForce 960

Yes you need.. go download it on microsoft website..and update also your drivers

directx is how the game talks to the graphics card. without it, the game can not play. just go to microsoft and download the game or let steam install it (i believe it will get it for oyu) if it will.

When you install Steam games, most will automatically (re-)install whichever version of DX they need the first time you start it.

Yep ^ what "InvalidError" said. It's totally normal for Steam games. Just let Steam install Direct X.

The problem is that DX9/10/11 use different APIs despite carrying the same general name so if you have DX11 installed and a game uses DX9 either as its only mode or as a backup when DX10/11 is not available which is the case with something like 99.9% of games out there, you end up having to install DX9.
