HI,
This is my first solo build. My goal is to construct an editing workhorse. These are the specs that I have come up with.

CPU (Intel Core i7-2600K)
MOBO (ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z)
RAM (G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB) X2 = 16Gb RAM
GPU (EVGA GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) Hydro Copper 2 3072MB) or GPU (MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB)
Which GPU would you pick?
HHD (Seagate Barracuda XT 64mb 6Gb/s)
SSD (OCZ Vertex 3 240Gb)
Power (ENERMAX MAXREVO 1350W 80+ Gold)
Disc Drive (Lite-on Blu-Ray Burner)
Case (Antec Lanboy air)
*Update: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212+

The items listed above add up to +/- $3,000

I work with CS5 (mostly After Effects and Premiere) and I want to build a system that can handle HD footage at 32 bit depth. I am also interested in working with Cinema 4D.
My questions for Tom's Hardware community are:
• What can be exchanged/improved upon without increasing the price drastically?
• What aftermarket heat sync would you recommend?
• I want to overclock. What are your suggestions regarding that?
• Is the GTX 580 /w hydro copper 2 worth the extra $100?
Please let me know if you see room for improvement.

I just received a sizable advance for a project and I want to build a beast that I can rely on. I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think that the cooler master is the way to go in terms of compatibility and price.

Just to let you know, if you don't know,
the EVGA GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) Hydro Copper 2 3072MB is watercooled
and the
MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB is aircooled.

i would tend to agree with p07h34d; I wouldn't get a 3tb, rather get 2x2tb/1tb where the performance will be better than the 3tb, and the cost will be far less...

Personally I wouldn't take the water cooled 580 (the risk of a leak > whole system is at risk)...

The msi 580 looks decent enough, and the noctua has been referred alot (good reviews etc, so it is a good cooler; Coolermaster, I am a coolermaster fan, so I would also go with the coolermaster; because in my country we don't get the noctua, unless you order from amazon and then the import taxes are crazy...

Cool. I think I am going to switch up from 1x3tb to 2x2tb 6gb/s
