I need help asap. I messed up!

So I have done something really foolish and need help ASAP. I have a tablet with 8.1. Last night I decided to use the "add more features to 8.1" link and so then I had entered a product. My tablet told me it was adding features, restarting etc. However something was wrong. When it restarted it wasn't added with features. I got a windows 8.1 build number at the bottom of the screen, and my pc info told me it was NOT activated. I panicked almost. thank god this was my new tablet and not my mainstream gaming laptop. I tried to refresh the pc and didn't work. The only thing I can think of now is backing up whatever I have and restoring to factory settings. But I need to know if that will really work out or not. If not what other options do I have?

Your tablet might have the windows 8.1 product key printed on the box check that and see if its on there.

I checked and it seems I don't have any restore or recovery points. I am already prepared that I may have to reset the tablet. I just want to know whether or not if I do that will work or not.

if you do restore the tablet just back everything up off of it that you want to keep before doing so and then reset it.

I actually came across a folder that wasn't there before. I saw a Windows.old folder. Could this somehow be what I need?

yes that essentially contains your old windows installation. try following this guide here from microsoft and see if that works for you https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971760
