Ok so I upgraded my CPU the other day and the temps reach 80 almost 90 when playing bf3. My temps would never go above 60 with my old CPU, which was a athlon 64 x2 3800+. My new processor is a athlon 64 x2 5600+. I use arctic silver 5 thermal compound. Both of the CPUS TDP are 65w but 5600+ is 900mhz faster. I use the stock cooler that came with my computer. Please help me!

Hi, I will assume you didnt overclock your CPU. You can try a few things.

The Thermal paste under your CPU fan must be not too little and not too much. Just a small green pea size should suffice. more than that or less than that could cause overheating.

If that fails, try to reset your BIOS settings to default and make sure that no software tuning is changing your clock settings.

Check if your box has proper cooling, blowing towards your CPU.

Also those fans are not so great so, you might want to invest in a 3rd party fan.

Hope this helps,
Gabor

Maybe redo the thermal paste with a bit more paste, and secure the fan tighly onto the CPU until it clicks in place all 4 corners.

I have am2 socket so my heatsink has 2 notches I hook it onto then pull the lever that applies pressure

I would check in bios and make sure your cpu voltage is not out of spec. Many older AM2 motherboards (Some Asrock mbs comes to mind.) are over volting some of the newer AM2 cpus. My 6000+ was set to 1.45v. (Way out of spec!) When I changed it to 1.32v my overheating went away.

My voltage is 1.35 I believe
