Hi

This is some of the specs I have for the computer I have.

CPU
intel i7-770k cpu @4.2ghz

Graphics Card
NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1060 6GB

Motherboard
MSI B250M PRO-VD

RAM
G.SKILL RIPJAW SERIES DDR4 16GB

I am looking to upgrade and have around £500 to do so. Some people have said to upgrade the motherboard first but I am looking for some advice.

Could anyone help?

I am sorry if this isnt enough information to go on but I am a bit naive when it comes to the insides of a computer.

Solution
the 7700K and a GTX1060 is still a quite satisfactory gamer at 1080P, and will/would remain so, save for your determination to stream....where it's limited 4 cores/8 threads inevitably sink it quickly...

Time to up the thread and core count for such workloads....

I'd go find a 9900K or 3800/3800X.... ; let your cpu shopping begin at 8c/16t minimum....

What do you want the pc to do better? If gaming what resolution and Hz is your monitor? What is the make and model of the psu? Is your RAM 2x8gb or 1x16gb and what speed is it? Do you have an SSD?

Hey there, its 2x8gb I want games to run a tad smoother while streaming. I have an SSD which all games are installed to.

This is my power supply
Corsair - TXM Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

I am getting a 144hz monitor this week also. Unfortunately only running on 60hz atm.

For smoother gaming while streaming I’d look at cpu upgrades but this will require a new motherboard and cpu minimum. I’m guessing from your motherboard that your RAM is probably slow, possibly 2133 or 2400mhz. This makes Ryzen options less appealing unless you upgrade RAM as well.

You could go i7 9700k with Z390 board or Ryzen 3600-3700X with a B450 or X570 motherboard and dater RAM.

Yeah it is 2400MHZ the ram.

With the Z390 I have searched and there are a lot of different brands. MSI, Gigabyte etc which one would I choose? And in future would this allow me to upgrade the ram to a faster speed if need be?

I'm assuming that you have a 7700k and that was a typo? For gaming, particularly at higher resolutions then the GTX1060 you have will be holding you back much more than your CPU. For £500 it's going to be a case of either the mobo/CPU OR the GPU, not both. Agree with sizzling, Ryzen will want faster RAM than what you have to get the full benefit, but will be a bit better at multitasking that Intel options.

With regards motherboard manufacturers, I don't think you can go wrong with MSI, ASUS or Gigabyte. Sure you will find people that will say ASUS's BIOS is crap, others will say MSI's voltage regulators are crap, and some people will say Gigabyte's after sales service is crap, it's much of a muchness with those three.

What would give me the best overall upgrade atm? The GPU? If so what GPU would you recommend?

What resolution? Have you monitored you cpu and gpu usage while gaming? You may be ok with just a gpu upgrade.

im just happy at 1080p. CPU usage is around 50-60% while streaming and GPU fluctuates from 70-90%.

Memory I do believe is needing some sort of upgrade though as the speed i've been told is awful.

Great, should I upgrade ram also to a faster speed?
