Hello everyone, this is what I am trying to figure out.. I am working on turning my current pc into more of a mid-range gaming pc capable of running somewhat graphical games such as Prototype 2, etc.

Here are my currently known PC specs:

Model: HP P6-2033W
Processor: Intel Pentium CPU G630 @ 2.7Ghz
RAM: 6gb
GPU: Integrated Intel HD Graphics Family

Now here is the problem, aside from the obvious; based on the old-school dual core processor..

I only spent $110 on this PC as-is and I am wondering if it would be worth trying to upgrade the processor & buy a graphics card, or if that is even possible\worthwhile.. I read on here that once you buy a PC you are pretty much stuck with the CPU unless you are wanting to barrel out cash to switch out the entire motherboard, psu, etc..

With that being said, my main question is whether or not it would be worth trying to upgrade this pc into a decent mid-range gaming rig; or am I better off re-selling it and trying to find another rig to work with?

If you think it would be worth my time to mess with, and if I could manage it without being too pricey,,, What would be some of my best options for upgrading this pc? I apologize in advance if I am "all over the place" with my questions, just not too hardware savvy and curious if it was worth it; what my best option would be..

I thank you all in advance for your help, I appreciate any input given here.

I think you would be better off with getting a new PC. If you're on a tight budget start off with a build based on the Pentium G3258 or G3420. Since with those processors you'll buy a LGA 1150 socket compatible motherboard you can upgrade your processor as you go. And the game you mentioned should easily run along with a graphics card like the Radeon HD 7770 or GTX 650.
If you can mention your exact budget here, then someone can help you here, more easily

My budget is only around $100, so it makes it a bit difficult.. If it is possible to just upgrade this one within that price range that would be preferable.. But if you guys think I would be better off selling this for $200-$250 then adding my other $100 for a different pc then that is what I will likely do.. I am honestly just curious what you guys would do if you were in my position.

You can get a graphics card for now but it would cause a bottleneck with your rest of the computer specs. I recommend saving up to at least $450 or $500 for an entry-level gaming PC.

If you sell your PC, then what will be the budget for your build? If you mean your total budget would be $200/250 + $100 = $350
Then you won't get a good gaming experience. Please tell your exact budget. Also tell your monitor resolution.

My exact budget would be closer to around $400-$420 MAX, I say that because I will likely only have around $350-$400 but I can do my best to sell some other things and work up the money I need for the build. I am not looking for anything insane, I am just looking for a build that can run newer games in general. Lowest graphic settings would be fine, it is just a matter of being able to run them and play efficiently even if only on the lowest settings.

Yeah that is a lot closer to my estimated price range, and I am sure I can find a decent priced 4GB ram stick on craigslist\ebay\etc.. Thank you man, those specs look about right. I appreciate the input!

The RAM should be the same model you use before, I recommend buying two sticks together. They might have compatibility issues.
Happy to help. Good Luck!!

Yeah two separate model sticks generally tend to encounter issues from what I hear, would definitely try to get two at the same time.. Might even be able to get some kind of discount if I do it like that. Thanks again man!!
