I need help making a computer

I have started feeling like I really want to get back into PC gaming, however I have no idea what I need! Looking at all the different parts and figures is very overwhelming. I want to know if anyone can give me some help on what I need for a gaming computer about $1000-$2000. I'll be playing games like Civ. 5, Planetside 2, Minecraft, and many other games that fall in those categories. The help would be greatlly appreciated!

do you need an OS
do you need a monitor/keyboard/mouse, etc...
do you plan to overclock, if so how far?
do you care if it is AMD, Intel, (basically any parts preference)
how big a hard drive do you need (are you doing anything that requires a larger hard drive)

im not sure about the PSU, as thats not really my area of expertise, i hope someone else can correct me on that, but whatever.

also, insted of one 7970 you could Xfire a pair of 7870's if you want to, or you could go NVIDIA, in which case get a 670 with your budget

wy not go with an i7 so then in the future you just change the gpu and maybe ram ? if u have 2k to spend or with the left money just buy a better gpu and crossfire it and to the psu just get the xfx 750w http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1750snlb9

I don't really plan on overclocking, and I'll look at monitors and accessories later on. As for preferences, I probably would prefer to go with NVIDIA, and I might go down to a 500 gig hard drive. But thank you for the help man!

alright, sorry i was away all day, if you dont plan on OC i would still get the 3570K, just in case you wanted to in the future as the 3570K gets older.

im not a NVIDIA fan so i dont know much about their cards, but as i think i said before with your budget i would get a 670. dont get a 680 because it is basically the same thing as the 670 but costs 100 bucks more. use the rest of the money for monitor (s) and other things

Get this build with a few modifications. 16gb ram is overkill for gaming. Unless your going to be doing some video editing or graphics, get 8gb. The PSU is good but if you don't want to crossfire then you can cut down to a 600w. Get the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 over the Extreme3. i was just making everything a bit overkill because of his large budget, but i guess its the buyers choice in the end if he wants the overkill stuff that will last longer.
