Hello folks...

My friend is mailing me his HP EliteBook Revolve 810 G2 laptop. It has a 256 GB M.2 SSD in it. His drive is full and he would like a larger drive installed, as well as a lube, oil and filter. This is a Windows 10 computer.

I went to HP's website and downloaded the correct service manual:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04055028.pdf

I was disappointed in how it was not very technical when it came to talking about the M.2 SSD that is installed. Starting on page 35, they talk about the M.2 SSD. The M.2 drive has two notches in it. If you look at page 37 in the link to the manual, you can see a drawing of the M.2 SSD HP has installed.

I prefer to use Samsung M.2 SSDs as they come with free cloning software as well as free Samsung magician software which will (among other things) let folks know when new firmware is available for the drive.

When I searched Amazon for a 500 GB M.2 SSD I found this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M7Q21N7/?coliid=I1FY0YDJO4229P&colid=SKO5AT9TPPH4&ref_=list
_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1

Note that the above drive only has one notch in it, not two. Will this work?

I did some more searching on Amazon and found this very expensive M.2 drive with two notches in it:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TGIW1X...olid=SKO5AT9TPPH4&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp
_it&th=1

The number of pins in the above drive do not match the pins in the HP M.2 drive.

I am so confused! Is the 500 GB Samsung drive with one notch in it plug compatible with the M.2 SSD slot in this HP laptop?

If not, can someone refer me to a SSD that I can use? If Samsung does not make a drive that I can use, and I need to go with another vendor, can someone recommend some cloning software I can buy?

Thanks so much for the help!

Hey there,

You should be looking at something like this: https://www.paradigit.ie/Western-Di...jz2uYNEVEnwzGpItMw4ePRGzF1ZNtRmQaAgdCEALw_wcB

Depending on your budget, just getting a 1TB version would be perfect.
Hi. Thank you. So is the Samsung M.2 500 GB SSD I linked to not a plug compatible drive? I really would prefer a Samsung drive for the reasons I posted. Did Samsung not make the type of drive I need? If not, can you recommend some cloning software to me? I appreciate you helping me.

Yes, it's a stellar drive in that format.

Being honest though, most of the M2 Sata drives perform very closely to each other. So, if there's a particularly good deal on a drive local to you, let us know, and we can confirm if it's a good option.
