Lately, my computer has been crashing when I try to play games. At first I thought it was my gpu overheating, but I used afterburner to lower temps but it continues. Every component is fairly new. I bl built my pc within the last two months. I checked my anti virus and scanned for any disk errors, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. I thought it might be with DirectX since it crashes only during 3D games. Dxdiag reveals everything fine. My gpu is fine too I think. Games were working fine for about a month. So I need to find what changed. I recently updated my gpu driver from Nvidia. Not sure if that is the reason. But I can try going back one update to the one before. I dont blue screen. In game, the screen suddenly goes black, then to to a random solid color and my speakers start buzzing. I have to restart. Any ideas?

Solution

Thanks for the advice! But I figured out the problem. It wasn't any hardware issues like I thought. It turns out that my steam games I was playing crashed because they didnt download properly and were missing essential files that I rediscovered and fixed through steam. I now am more aware of my temps now though so I guess its a benefit :)

So I rolled back the NVIDIA driver and used Core Temp to track my CPU temps. I played a few minutes of Borderlands 2 and it crashed again..

My CPU never rose above 40 Celcius
