I would like some advice (and possibly some links for suggested parts) on how to go about upgrading my computer. I know how to install the parts just fine, but I'd like to get some help on buying the correct parts. Several sites have suggested to look at systemrequirementslab.com or "CanYouRunIt" to find out what kind of specs I'll need, so I used a game that was more taxing than most, because I'd like to run a majority of games. These were the recommended specs https://imgur.com/a/SOSXS
My Specs
CPU- Intel Pentium G620(2,60GH)
GPU-Intel HD Graphics 1809MB memory(only information program gives me)
4GB ram
Motherboard- Pegatron 2AC2(1.02A)

What's your budget? Assuming that motherboard will take an i5 2500, or i7 2600/2700, AND your case will fit a decent ATX PSU and long GPU, there's nothing stopping you getting a solid mid-range gaming build there. Just budget... and the PSU and case questions.

I'd say my range is somewhere around 600$? Anything more than that and I'd most likely just buy a new computer instead, PSU is 250 watts, and as far as the case goes, I could measure things inside, but I'd assume I could fit most replacements

Will that be a problem? Seeing as they go for around 50$ it seems like a decently small addition.

That's a decent budget, you should absolutely be able to get a decent system with that.

Just two more questions.
1) Is this a pre-build? Like HP or something? You 100% need to upgrade your PSU, so we just need to know if it's a standard PSU, because some HP/Dell/Compaq etc use proprietary models which are an absolute pain to upgrade.

2) I'm assuming this upgrade is for gaming? Is that right? If not, why are you upgrading? What do you want to do with the PC?

I'm with you on the direction you're heading here. Couple of concerns though...

Are you sure the mobo can take an Ivy Bridge CPU? Most can with a BIOS update, but I had a hunt and can't find any vaguely legit looking site for BIOS updates on that mobo. If that's the case he's stuck with Sandy Bridge CPUs. Also, why the "K" CPU on a H61 mobo? Much better to stick with non OC'd CPUs, especially second hand as you know they haven't been run at crazy voltages for most their life.

1. Yea, it's a pre-built pc from 2011. The exact model is HP Pavilion p7-1050t 2. I'm planning to play games but I'm also taking Programming classes, and currently my computer has a hard time running more taxing programs on Eclipse.

If I built a new system I'd feel like I'm wasting what I currently have.
