I need help with a new cpu that i'm going to buy i have a Compaq -Presario WC773AA_UUW_CQ5340 and i need to know if a Intel Pentium G3240 can fit in it.
My brother is not going ot play all the games on ultra he just wants to play some CS:GO So i thought of buying a new cpu that would help him out with the FPS issues that he has on CS:GO.
Thank you for reading.

OP, you are in luck, since your mobo uses DDR3. Most socket 775 mobos use DDR2, but not this one. So, RAM can be reused in a new rig. Also, you can reuse your HDD and case. I also included a brand new quality PSU in this build, since the one you have is quite old. Note that G3258 can also be overclocked to 4.2GHz on stock cooler without a sweat.

Here are the recommended requirements for CS:GO. You could try picking up a decent 775 processor (dual or quad core) second-hand.

What graphics card does he have installed? If none, then a £50 graphics card should do it.

If all this is going to be for is some CS:GO and other general PC duties then that should be fine without having to spend out on a full upgrade. Never any harm getting more life out of an old system.

What's your budget here?

If you use the old RAM and HDD and case etc from your old system, a Pentium + uATX board + average GPU card should be about £150 in total. (The integrated graphics of the Pentium will likely be too poor for CS:GO.) It would at least give you better upgrade options in future.
