Question I need help with Adobe Acrobat Pro - what is?

In Adobe Acrobat Pro I download files to a local folder where I can convert, edit, combine files and so forth. I have run into a situation that I hadn't noticed before, don't know what it is called/what to call it, so I don't know how to find a way to change or undo, if possible.

If I have something like a Text Document with notes for an inspection report, I like to convert these and combine them with the report. Anything that I convert from a text file, word doc, etc. to .pdf then has a small note at the bottom of the page showing the file path from my local PC that the document resided in.

I can delete it in edit, but would like to see if there is a way to turn that feature off. Thing is, IDK what the feature is called to look for. I just spent about 20 mins in preferences/settings looking but nothing jumped out at me. Any idea what this would be referred to as and how to turn it off?

(I would ask tech support, but they are worthless as tits on a bull so if I can find it myself more the better)

Elevated to "Senior Tech Team". /sigh

We did find that pictures and word/office documents are not doing "it". Only text documents and it appears the moment I right click and select convert to. At that point I can edit it off before final save, but keep forgetting to do so. Not something I want on company reports.

this post is asking how to enable the feature you want to disable

in his text he states, "I have also (at the suggestion of customer service) checked the Create PDF from Webpage section, and "Insert Header and Footer" is checked."

could that be the box you want to uncheck?? i don't use the program but can usually search rather well wityh my weird way of asking google. this is the only related question i could find on the subject so far.

maybe i got lucky and it's the right setting........

I cannot find anything that states "Create PDF from Webpage" within my preferences. I am on a much later version than this as well as W11, so it may not exist. Probably just don't know where to look/for.
I am fairly astonished that you just found more related to what I was asking than over an hour on with tech support. I am going to keep this link handy. I have a scheduled call with the "Senior" team tomorrow, so let us see if they know anything.

dang so much for getting lucky on the first shot. lol

i was gonna download the trial of the new 2020 version but they want a CC just to try it out. i'm bored today so i'll keep trying my oddball google searches and see what might turn up.

edit: i'm not finding anything past acrobat pro X on the topic. found multiple pages saying

"File > Create PDF => From web page ...", to not 'Add header and footer to each new page'.

but i think that's what you already tried.

When I first got the program was in response to attempting to use the 'free-online' versions of various name. All of them have significant flaws where it comes to doing operations on a large volume of files in a day. I think my favorite editor, alone, is pdf escape. It is simple to use and very sensical in operation. The downfall being that once you use it a certain number of times in a day it quits working or prompts for payment, etc.

I will say that in the time I have had Adobe I have learned a lot and it works mostly well. I think they are in touch with common issues and where they aren't particularly quick about fixing all of them, updates do seem to have functional improvements. The bigger issue is just how much it truly has going on and the level of script reading support "techs" don't seem to be able to help much. I also wasn't super pleased with the recent price hike of $5 a month.

From the link:

"Start with a linked table of contents so readers jump directly to the section they want, or use links to send readers anywhere in your PDF — or to an attachment, web page, video, or audio file."

My intrepretation may have been a bit too broad but "attachment" and "[audio] file" left me with the impression that a URL was not a requirement per se.

In the meantime I found the following link:

Link to a file attachment.

Also from the link:

  1. Choose Tools > Edit PDF > More > Attach File.
  2. In the Add Files dialog box, select the file you want to attach, and click Open.

    Note:
If you attach EXE, VBS, or ZIP file formats, Acrobat warns you that it won’t open the file once attached because the format is associated with malicious programs, macros, and viruses that can damage your computer.
  3. To make the attachment viewable in Acrobat 5.0 or earlier, do one of the following:
    • Choose View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Attachments, and select Show Attachments By Default from the options menu
      AX_NavOptions_Sm_N.png
      (selected by default).
    • Choose File > Properties, click the Initial View tab, choose Attachments Panel And Page from the Navigation Tab menu, and click OK.
  4. Save the PDF.
  5. (Optional) To add a description to the attachment that helps differentiate between similar files in the Attachments panel, select the attached file, and from the options menu
    AX_NavOptions_Sm_N.png
, choose EditDescription. Edit the text of the description, and then save the fil

Just for fun try a path name targeting the desired text doc.

Even if not at first successful, hopefully Adobe will provide some sort of pop-up error message or "Help" example to provide specific requirements and format information.

Another means of figuring out how to do the link is to find an Adobe document of any sort that uses links as you require. Reverse engineer the document.

I am not sure if I am misunderstanding you, or the other way around.

The issue isn't a link I am trying to add or take away. It is a path from the local folder that gets printed on the 'notes' portion of what I am attaching to a report, from Text Document and the like.

The link that Math Geek put up comes really close to what I am trying to do, but the information is old enough that the structure of the preferences (whatever) aren't the same and I cannot find what it refers to. In one of those threads the individual seeking help there discusses WHY that gets put there (for finding as reference), but in my case it is just the local scratch folder that I do conversions and combining in. It doesn't really pose a problem anywhere aside from me, as I just prefer not to have it there and find myself forgetting to go take it off. It isn't a link, you can't click it, just the "path" as it were.

I have a scheduled call with Senior Support incoming after 10, so hopefully they can clear it up for me. I will gladly post back here for others edification.

I do appreciate the assistance, thank you.

Man, total waste of time. Pretty pissed off.

Got the call back and missed it, so they gave me a chat link to get this "Senior Tech" by chat. Went through the whole checklist again, did everything we went through yesterday again. At the end of the chat the tech says:

"So, the application is working correctly, just unable to keep it from putting this text at the bottom of .txt files as you convert them?"

I answered yes and the tech promptly disconnected the chat. Complete waste of hours of my life. Jerks!

Sounds like our tech support all they know is what is on the PC screen, they get to the bottom of the page and that's it!

At least ours sends you a email with a incident # and when you figure it out you respond back with how it was fixed and they add that to the screen that comes up with that problem.
